View: Rangers will be furious as Celtic boss makes comical 'false narrative' statement over Ibrox scenes
Celtic’s interim chairman Brian Wilson seems to think his club aren’t at fault for the majority of the full-time scenes at Ibrox after a win over Rangers.
Danny Rohl’s side were knocked out of the Scottish Cup Quarter-final after losing a penalty shootout to their arch nemesis on Sunday.
It was the first time an Old Firm clash at Ibrox had seen the Broomloan stand opened up to more than 7,000 Celtic fans for the first time since 2018, with good reason for the eight-year period.
Following Celtic’s winning penalty, their travelling supporters were the ones who made the first move in entering the field, prompting some Gers fans to do the same, which resulted in a bad reflection for Scottish football.
Rangers’ loss to Celtic was damaging enough as it was, but they cannot afford to lose out through the Scottish FA’s investigation, with Wilson now speaking out.

Brian Wilson disregards truth in Rangers vs Celtic
There has been no change to Rangers and Celtic’s fan agreement just yet, with Gers fans set for an allocation of over 2,000 for the final Old Firm clash of the season in the post-split fixture.
That could change, but something that is surely set for a switch is the allocation that Celtic fans get next time they visit Ibrox, if any at all.
- Celtic fans were seen breaking into Ibrox before the game
- They destroyed chairs, restrooms, and sprayed abusive graffiti on the walls of the ground
Celtic chairman, Wilson, has now released a statement on the matter, which is heavily in defence of his own club, disregarding that it all came about through the own doing of Hoops fans.
Wilson said, as quoted by the Glasgow Times: “Let us look at the evidence. If there is evidence of violence or threats of violence, then of course I will condemn that, but let us look at the evidence before we create a false narrative.”
The interim chairman then described the full-time scenes as a “euphoric response”, claiming it was not unusual, with it happening several times this season in Scottish football already, which doesn’t then just make it okay.
Wilson also said: “That in itself does not normally draw expressions of condemnation. Therefore, what I would say about that is that I welcome the SFA’s intention to have a full inquiry.”
A large majority of Celtic fans were already coming to Ibrox with bad intentions, as seen in the aftermath of how they left the Broomloan stand looking.
So the fact that Wilson is taking this stance will surely have Rangers chiefs unhappy.
Why Rangers have let themselves down with safety situation
One area where the Bears have let themselves down is the security of Ibrox from the game against Celtic.
There wasn’t enough stewards to police some of the situations, and that’s ultimately what also led to the pitch invasion.
However, Celtic fans will most likely have tried to enter the field of play after the final whistle, regardless, but that may not matter to the Scottish FA.
Though it wouldn’t seem fair, as Gers fans responded in retaliation, Rangers could also be held liable for the safety of Ibrox that day.
Investigations are ongoing, and a conclusion should be reached soon.
