View: Shearer spot on about what changed for 'absolutely outstanding' Tottenham vs Aston Villa
Alan Shearer has reacted to Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win against Aston Villa as the Lilywhites moved out of the relegation zone.
It was a crucial win in the dogfight at the bottom of the table, with the pressure now put back onto West Ham ahead of the next set of fixtures.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side looked much better at Villa Park and had the desire to go out and win that football match.
While Spurs may have been helped by Villa’s rotation, nothing can take away from the effort that was shown on Sunday night.
In Tottenham’s win against Aston Villa, the change of determination was evident in the eyes of Alan Shearer.

What did Alan Shearer say about Tottenham’s performance against Aston Villa?
Tottenham have picked up back-to-back wins in the Premier League this season for the first time since the opening two matches of the season.
The Lilywhites knew they had it all to do to climb out of the relegation zone, and De Zerbi’s side turned up in a big way.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer pointed out what was different for Spurs, stating: “They don’t win the first header, but they win that second ball.
“That was a constant right throughout the game, and that gave them the platform to go and play and to create chances.
“Again, look how many men they’ve got in forward positions. They were brave, they were aggressive, and they were absolutely outstanding and deserved to win that game.”
Shearer is spot on. Tottenham showed up to win that game of football, and that was clear in their intentions from the very first whistle.
In truth it was a breath of fresh air from the Spurs teams we have seen over the course of this season. Against Aston Villa, Tottenham held more possession at 55 per cent as per Sofascore.

Spurs completed more tackles (23) than Aston Villa (19) throughout the game. Tottenham also made more interceptions (10) than Emery’s side (5).
Additionally, that agression and determination Shearer speaks of is clear in the fact that the N17 outfit won a higher percentage of duels (51 per cent) than the Birmingham-based club (49 per cent), even if the margins are slim.
Roberto De Zerbi deserves credit for Tottenham’s turnaround so far
Two wins in a row is quite the turnaround for Tottenham this season, and manager De Zerbi deserves the credit for doing so in his short reign so far.
The Italian had the Lilywhites playing with an intent that has often been lacking this season, and none of the Tottenham players were hiding.
Since being named Tottenham manager, De Zerbi has won 58 per cent of the total points available. If Spurs keep up at that rate, they will finish the campaign on 42 points.

It means West Ham would have to at minimum win two of their final three and get a result in the other, with Tottenham having the superior goal difference as it stands.
Tottenham face Leeds United on 11 May, with the Elland Road outfit not mathematically safe from relegation yet.
It is poised to be yet another must-win tie, but each game left this season already is.
