View: Stuart McCall once raved about 'technically gifted ball player' now wanted by Rangers, he's perfect for Ibrox
Danny Rohl is preparing for a busy winter transfer window at Rangers.
Andrew Cavenagh is expected to make a significant investment at Ibrox again in January, following a £20million net spend in the summer.
Rohl could sanction Joe Rothwell’s exit soon, which could potentially open the door for midfield reinforcements in the coming weeks.
The German manager will surely want quality players capable of competing for a place in the starting lineup, and the Glaswegian outfit already have players on their radar who could be perfect for them.
Rangers given seal of approval to sign Elliot Watt
Rohl is a big fan of Motherwell midfielder Elliot Watt, with the Gers expected to make a move soon.
The 25-year-old is having a resurgence at Fir Park this season after spending several years down south at Wolves, Bradford City, Salford and Burton Albion.
During the Scotland Under-21 international’s spell at the University of Bradford Stadium, he worked under Stuart McCall for a few months.
Speaking when Bradford signed Watt, the now Preston North End assistant manager said, “Elliot is a player I have had my eye on for quite a while now. He is very hungry and wants to get out and make his mark. He is a really technically gifted ball player who has international experience at youth level with Scotland.”
Watt is now thriving at Motherwell, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 19 league appearances under Jens Berthel Askou.
The defensive-midfielder has been a key player for the Steelmen, who are just two points behind the Light Blues in the William Hill Premiership.
Elliot Watt could be days away from Ibrox move after Danny Rohl demand
Rohl has made a new number six his priority at Rangers, with Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl also on the radar in G51.
It looks like the Gers are already considering a few targets to bolster the engine room, and an arrival could potentially be days away.
Sofascore rating 7.5 Minutes played 89 Accurate passes 69/81 (85%) Successful dribbles 1 Tackes won 5/6 Ground duels won 8/16
Watt is a known quantity in Scottish football and arguably won’t take long to settle in at Ibrox if he does complete a move in the coming weeks.
The German manager would like to see the Glaswegian outfit complete signings early on in the window, and the Motherwell star’s situation will be worth keeping an eye on.
