View: Tottenham won't be happy with referee booking vs Wolves as recent run proves

Tottenham Hotspur are on a losing run with Anthony Taylor as referee, and it’s he who will take their game against Wolves on Saturday.

The biggest game of Tottenham’s 2025-26 Premier League season awaits, as they head to Wolves knowing nothing but three points will do.

Roberto De Zerbi and his players will be aware of that expectation too, as after their visit to Molineux, Spurs face a four-game gauntlet to end their season.

Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea and Everton all stand ready for the Lilywhites down the road, with the relegation battle quickly turning into a two-horse race between themselves and West Ham respectively.

So, Wolves is a must-win game for Tottenham, which is precisely why they won’t be thrilled to see Taylor in the middle for it.

What is Tottenham’s record with Anthony Taylor as referee?

For whatever reason, certain teams can enjoy playing against certain teams, in specific stadiums and with individual referees more than they do with others.

Tottenham are six games without a win against Wolves, however, and they also haven’t taken victory at Molineux from any of their last three league visits.

Tottenham’s last 6 vs WolvesScore
27 Sep, 2025 – Premier League1-1
13 Apr, 2025 – Premier League4-2 loss
29 Dec, 2024 – Premier League2-2
17 Feb, 2024 – Premier League2-1 loss
11 Nov, 2023 – Premier League2-1 loss
4 Mar, 2023 – Premier League1-0 loss

Clearly then, Wanderers are not one of those sides, nor Molineux a venue, that Tottenham particularly love playing/visiting in recent times.

Spurs can’t look past the Old Gold as such, and certainly not when looking at their record with Saturday’s referee, Taylor.

Indeed, as detailed by Transfermarkt, Tottenham have lost four-straight games in all competitions with Taylor as the man in the middle, dating back to December 2024 in a 4-3 loss to Chelsea.

The 47-year-old referee also took charge of Spurs’ most recent trip to Molineux on 13 April last year, which ended up in a 4-2 win for the home side, as well as the 2-1 loss to Wolves in February 2024.

Spurs’ last win with Taylor as referee came against Everton on 24 August 2024, and have an overall record with him of 25 wins, six defeats and 19 losses from 50 matches.

Taylor’s most recent Tottenham match he refereed was their 2-1 home loss to Newcastle United on 10 February this year.

What is Wolves’ record with Taylor as referee?

So, evidently Tottenham’s luck isn’t in with Taylor at the moment, but what about Wolves?

Well, Wanderers’ record with the FIFA listed referee isn’t great either, having lost their last two with him in the middle.

However, both of those defeats have been from this season, and prior to 2025-26, they’d actually only lost one of their previous six games with him in charge in all competitions, and that was against Liverpool.

Wolves have an overall record with Taylor as referee of 10 wins, six draws and 17 losses from 33 games, with their last victory with him indeed being that aforementioned 4-2 win against Tottenham last year.

Something has to give then on Saturday, as Tottenham know this could possibly be their last realistic chance of three points this season.
