Richarlison’s importance at Tottenham Hotspur is being overlooked massively.

Spurs are heading for relegation unless things improve drastically under Igor Tudor, though the latter is already looking unlikely.

They sit just one point above the relegation zone ahead of their trip to Anfield at the weekend, knowing that anything less than a win could see them drop into the bottom three.

Tottenham have a chance of avoiding relegation, but to do so, Tudor needs to utilise his best players, and stats show why Richarlison is among them.

Why is Igor Tudor overlooking Richarlison?

Tudor has yet to win a game since he took over from Thomas Frank as manager, and he’s also yet to hand a start to Richarlison, who has been linked with a summer exit from North London.

The Brazilian has featured in three of the four games Tudor has been in charge of, as well as actually having scored in one of them, but the Croatian has maintained his decision to omit him from the starting 11.

Why? That’s a good question, because the stats show he should be starting.

Not only is Richarlison Tottenham’s top scorer, but he also leads the way for goals per 90, xG per 90 and shots on target per 90.

The Brazilian has 7.9 xGOT this season, which is more than their next two players combined in Micky van de Ven and Joao Palhinha.

His importance is demonstrated via his Sofascore graphic below, which highlights the fact that he also averages the most touches in the penalty area per game.

And despite all of the data showing how crucial he could be, Tudor keeps naming him on the bench, which could prove to be a mistake that comes back to haunt him at the end of the campaign.

Who should make way for Richarlison?

Quite frankly, there isn’t a single attacking player at Tottenham whose place in the starting 11 is cemented, with Dominic Solanke the only one you could make a case for.

The Englishman has three goals in six starts for Tottenham since returning from injury, but has found the net in just one of his last six appearances.

Tudor could opt to utilise Richarlison up top with Solanke, or play him wide, with none of Spurs’ wingers pulling their weight as of late.

However, what has been made clear is the fact that Richarlison has to start games for Tottenham in the Premier League if they are to have any hope of avoiding relegation to the Championship.
