“We don’t know yet” – Falconets head coach gives injury update on Janet Akekoromowei ahead of Senegal clash

Nigeria U-20 head coach Moses Aduku has provided an update on the fitness of Janet Akekoromowei following the injury she sustained in the Falconets’ 1–0 win over Senegal, Soccernet.ng reports.

In the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier held at the MKO Abiola Sports Abeokuta, the striker picked up a knock.

Speaking exclusively to Soccernet NG, Aduku confirmed that the medical team is still assessing the winger’s condition, with her availability for this weekend’s return leg yet to be determined.

Medical Team Still Assessing Janet Akekoromowei

“The medical team has been taking care of her. We are hoping she’ll come back on time. But we don’t know yet until they give us their feedback,” Aduku told Soccernet NG.

Akekoromowei was forced off during the first leg after picking up a knock. Sources had earlier indicated that scan results were still being awaited to determine the severity of the injury.

‘An Important Player for Us’ – Falconets coach

When asked if the youngster would be available for the decisive clash in Dakar this weekend, Aduku admitted there is still uncertainty.

“We don’t know yet. If she’s good enough, we’ll take her to the game because the game is crucial. She’s a very good player and an important player for the team,” the coach added. “For now, we are focused on the game and we believe God that we’ll get a result in Senegal.”

Nigeria heads into the return fixture with a narrow advantage, but Akekoromowei’s potential absence could be a major concern as the Falconets look to secure qualification for the Poland 2026 tournament.
