'Welcome to the circus' - West Ham fans fume at David Sullivan for 'pointless' signing as announcement made

West Ham fans are not happy with their owner David Sullivan after the signing of inexperienced winger Keiber Lamadrid was announced with the club staring relegation in the face.

Nuno Espirito Santo is facing an uncertain future as West Ham boss as they battle to survive a surprise relegation to the Championship this season.

He was hired as Graham Potter’s replacement back in September, but has only led the Hammers to three wins from the 17 Premier League games he has overseen so far.

They currently sit 18th, five points from safety, and Nuno is now the bookies’ favourite to be sacked next among all Premier League managers.

Hammers owner Sullivan has backed his manager with numerous new signings this month as they aim to avoid relegation, but their latest arrival has not filled many of their fans with much confidence for the second half of the campaign.

West Ham announce arrival of Keiber Lamadrid on loan from Deportivo La Guaira

West Ham have signed Valentin Castellanos and Pablo from Lazio and Gil Vicente respectively this month to bolster Nuno’s attacking ranks.

Crysencio Summerville has been linked to Tottenham in the last few days amid some fine form for the Hammers, but they have no plans to let him leave midway through the campaign.

Reports recently emerged of their interest in Venezuelan winger Lamadrid, who registered eight goals and seven assists in 37 games across all competitions for Deportivo La Guaira in the 2025 season and made his international debut last November.

West Ham moved to announce the signing of the 22-year-old on loan until the end of the campaign on Thursday with a post on X, but with the caveat that he needs time to get up to speed after not playing competitively for over a month.

Nuno admitted that he is not yet ready to feature for their first-team in his press conference on Thursday, with Hammers fans subsequently laying into Sullivan and the club for agreeing to the deal.

West Ham fans blast Sullivan and recruitment team for Lamadrid signing – ‘Absolutely no use’

Lamadrid is only on loan at West Ham until May, yet may not even make his debut until mid-February as he follows a schedule akin to that of a pre-season.

His experience can certainly be questioned regardless, given that he is arriving from the Venezuelan top flight and only started playing regularly for La Guaira in 2024.

One fan reacted to the news of his arrival by saying: “(He is a) Sullivan present, possibly one for the future, possibly not. Either way, absolutely no use to our relegation battle.”

Another said: “Promising and young and not first team ready at 22 years old?? Never change West Ham, never change. Welcome to the Circus.”

While one supporter added: “The most David Sullivan transfer of all time. Good luck to the lad but I’ll be amazed if we see him feature in the first team. This one smells of a dodgy deal.”
