‘Worst footballer I’ve ever seen’ – West Ham fans rip into player who must ‘never wear the shirt again’
Nuno Espirito Santo is being blamed for starting one specific player as West Ham were put to the sword by Man City on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola’s side overtook Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with all three points, but it was the Hammers who handed the win on a plate to their opponents on 20 December.
At the opposite end of the table, West Ham are in serious danger of being relegated, being sent down to the Championship for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, but the manager has very little to work with.
Jarrod Bowen continues to shine for West Ham, with Lucas Paqueta looking more like himself, but failed transfers are blamed for current issues, especially in the centre of defence.
Although Jean-Clair Todibo has turned his career around at the London Stadium, the same cannot be said for Max Kilman, who was without El Hadji Malick Diouf or Aaron Wan-Bissaka on either side of him.
Max Kilman is ripped to shreds by furious West Ham fans
Labelled as “the worst defender in Premier League history,” it is fair to say that the travelling fans were seriously unimpressed by the former Wolves man at the Etihad Stadium.
While he cannot be totally blamed for any of the goals, with those around him also failing to do their jobs, it feels like a recurring nightmare for West Ham supporters watching him every week.
One supporter went as far as to call him a “war criminal” in true football fan fashion, with another stating that he must “never wear the shirt again,” due to his mistakes at the back.
- @alanrzepa: “Kilman is slowly dropping into the Roger Johnson category of CB’s to play for us. Absolutely horrendous, again.”
- @Jack_Heffer02: “Kilman is a disgrace of a player. Should never wear the shirt again, lets us down every single time he plays. Pathetic.”
- @whucam_: “Max Kilman is a war criminal.”
Kilman should be embarrassed by his stats vs Man City
The centre-back’s numbers do not make for good reading at all, but that is not surprising in the slightest after shipping three goals to Guardiola’s team at the Etihad.
In 90 minutes [FotMob], the 28-year-old completed just 33 per cent of his long balls, lost 100 per cent of his tackles, won just 50 per cent of his ground and aerial duels, and also committed two fouls.
It was not just a one-off, either, with Kilman often used as a scapegoat by the Hammers fans, but clearly for very good reason after allowing Erling Haaland to free-roam in the penalty area multiple times.
The Norwegian star netted either side of a fine finish from Tijjani Reijnders, but thanks to the defenders in front of them, the duo made it look easy as the Citizens claimed an important three points.
