“Accepted” – What Frank Onyeka said after his first loss in Coventry City jersey

Super Eagles and Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka has reacted to his side's loss to Southampton in the EFL Championship, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old joined the Sky Blues from Brentford in the January transfer window, and immediately hit the ground running, featuring in six straight wins for Frank Lampard's side.

However, Onyeka couldn't impact the game against Southampton earlier today, as the spirited Saints secured a narrow 2-1 win against the EFL Championship league leaders.

Speaking after the game, the AFCON 2023 finalist urged his teammates to keep their heads up in their quest for a top-flight status.

“It was a good game, but unfortunately, we could not get our win today. We had lots of chances which didn't go in. It's just one of those days. We have to pick ourselves up and go into the next game,” the former Midtjylland midfielder said in his post-game interview.

“The defeat isn't something any player wants, but again, it's one of those days where we have to accept what has happened and use it to fuel us in the next game.

“When we scored, we thought it was time to go for a point, but at the same time, there were other chances. “It's disappointing, but there's nothing to dwell on here.

“I love playing here. From my first day at the club, I knew it was right. They welcomed me well, and I had my son here,” Onyeka concluded.

Despite the loss, Frank Lampard's are still seven points clear at the top of the EFL Championship table.
