Alex Crook moots what'll probably now happen to Everton ace who's been left frustrated
Dwight McNeil could soon have his Everton exit for the summer lined up after the drama over a failed deadline-day move to Crystal Palace.
David Moyes has been lacking in options at the top end of the field at times this campaign and has still opted against playing McNeil many times.
The winger joined the Toffees in the summer of 2022 and has been on somewhat of a yearly decline ever since.
Which is why Everton fans were delighted to hear that McNeil could have signed for Crystal Palace on the last day of the winter window, in a transfer that really came out of nowhere.
But the last-minute collapse has caused controversy.

Alex Crook suggests Dwight McNeil ‘frustrated’ and summer exit likely
Crystal Palace were tipped to make a late £20million bid for McNeil, which Steve Parish then splashed out in the eleventh hour, but for one reason or another, the deal didn’t happen.
The Englishman’s partner, Megan, then took to social media to voice her and the McNeil family’s disappointment over the transfer not going through.
- McNeil has only seen 615 minutes of Premier League football this season
- He has one goal contribution in all competitions
While speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday, Alex Crook explained further financial details of McNeil’s collapsed move to the Eagles. He also shared his thoughts about the forward’s future with the Toffees.
Crook said: “The contract was in place and there was a financial agreement with Everton. I think really this was scuppered because the Jean-Philippe Mateta deal was called off by AC Milan.
“Palace were using that money to facilitate the signing of McNeil.
“Then they tried to change it from a permanent to a loan with a £20m obligation at the end of the season, and that might not have suited Everton’s needs, and now you’ve got a frustrated player.
“But hopefully he can have a strong end to the season and then probably get a move in the summer.”
Who knows what the Friedkin Group would have done with a possible late injection of £20m, had a permanent sale gone through.
But there’s still a high chance that McNeil will leave for a decent fee in the summer.
What’s the likelihood of McNeil playing despite PR backing?
Everton took to their Instagram account following the conclusion of the winter window after McNeil’s partner spoke out more on the failed transfer to Crystal Palace.
Her statement included that McNeil is determined to keep proving himself for the Blues, and will give it his all until the end of the season at the least.
Everton shared the post in hopes of getting fans behind McNeil, with the 26-year-old still on the books.
But the reality is that Moyes now has Tyrique George at his disposal, which has put McNeil’s playing chances in further doubt.
Time will tell, but if the left-winger gets another start this season, then something may have gone wrong.
