Ally McCoist won't apologise about 'incredible' Everton verdict ahead of Merseyside derby

Everton have earned positive reviews from Ally McCoist ahead of the clash with Liverpool on Sunday.

The Toffees are preparing to welcome their local rivals to Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time since moving out of Goodison over the summer.

A first Merseyside derby since September comes at arguably the best time for the Blues, but the worst time for Arne Slot and Co.

The Anfield club have just been dumped out of the Champions League and are in a poor run of form in the Premier League.

Everton can be confident of a win against Liverpool, with McCoist standing firm on what has made the L3 outfit so good recently.

Ally McCoist won’t apologise for David Moyes love

There has been so much positive to say about the Toffees since David Moyes came in to replace Sean Dyche in the dugout.

The Scot’s second spell as manager has been as good as the last and has made the former Burnley man look amateurish.

He has helped build a squad that is well on its way to European qualification, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, James Garner and Iliman Ndiaye leading the charge.

That has lead to rave reviews for the ex-Manchester United boss, who could lead his side into the Europa League or Conference League next season.

McCoist has now spoken out for his love of Moyes on talkSPORT and refused to back down on his opinion.

He said: “I keep going on about it, and I make no apology for it; the job that Moyes has done at Everton is absolutely incredible.”

Moyes will be hopeful of an Everton win over Liverpool and has received backing from his fellow countryman ahead of the derby.

McCoist backs Everton to win Merseyside derby vs Liverpool

Although qualifying for continental football would be a superb achievement, winning against the Reds would be massive.

The Toffees last won a derby clash in 2024 and have secured victory in just three of the last 34 in all competitions.

Even with that poor record behind them, McCoist has suggested that he wouldn’t be surprised if Moyes secured victory over Slot on Sunday.

He continued on talkSPORT, “The biggest thing is, it would not be a shock if Everton beat Liverpool at the weekend.

“Would it be a shock if they finished above them in the league? You think what’s happened with Liverpool’s injuries, Ekitike’s one is a disaster.”

Three points over the Anfield club would be massive for Everton and could be the inspiration to send them on their way to a top-seven finish.
