Aston Villa fans cannot miss John McGinn’s hilarious Morgan Rogers jibe as Aston Villa soar
John McGinn appears to blame Morgan Rogers for Aston Villa’s early struggles in a humorous new interview.
Villa beat Man United 2-1 to move up to third in the Premier League table, just three points behind league leaders Arsenal, with very few able to argue that Unai Emery‘s side are not in the title race.
While Arsenal remain favourites for the Premier League trophy, there is still half a campaign to play, and clearly, anything is possible after the transformed football at Villa Park.
Having gone winless in their opening five league games of the season, though, it was not always plain sailing for the Villans, and McGinn has taken a cheeky dig at superstar Rogers for exactly that.
Morgan Rogers has finally found some form at Villa Park
The 23-year-old now has seven goals to his name in the Premier League, plus three assists, but until the 2-1 win over Tottenham in October, he had yet to hit the back of the net.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (24 December), McGinn was questioned about what changed, saying: “Well, Morgan’s shots were going over the bar,” causing the presenter to burst into laughter.
After a short pause, he continued: “Now they’re dipping just under the bar! We started really poorly, and we couldn’t find a goal. Then we started getting closer and closer, and found a run of form.”
McGinn has always been a constant in Villa’s team, and with the Scotland international always speaking his mind, there is probably some part of him that means it about his in-form teammate.
Rogers is now the subject of heavy transfer interest again
Interest in the attacker had cooled, largely due to his struggles in front of goal, but after netting a brace against the Red Devils, supporters will be fearing his potential exit again.
Stefan Borson revealed to Football Insider that any release clause in Rogers’ contract would likely be worth £125million, an eye-watering fee for any club across Europe.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest clubs in the Premier League have taken notice of his performances, not least Man United and Chelsea, and it would be a shock if European sides aren’t also keeping tabs.
He already has 24 goals and 19 assists in 94 appearances, becoming the first name on Emery’s teamsheet across all competitions. It would be almost impossible to replace him.
Very few at Villa Park have the same impact as the 23-year-old, and the manager would be absolutely lost without him in attack.
