Cesc Fabregas’ odds of Chelsea return revealed, dressing room is ‘unhappy’ under Liam Rosenior

Cesc Fabregas could potentially be edging towards a remarkable return to Chelsea to replace Liam Rosenior in the dugout.

The 41-year-old is under serious pressure just months into his time at the helm at Stamford Bridge, and the bookmakers have now identified Fabregas as one of the leading candidates to replace him.

The Como boss is currently listed among the five leading candidates to take charge of the Blues for next season, while former left-back Filipe Luis is the favourite for the role at the moment.

Como are flying high in Serie A under the Spaniard this season, and they are on course to potentially qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history, with just eight games left to play.

Chelsea also find themselves in a battle to try and qualify, amid all the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Blues’ managerial situation.

Cesc Fabregas a strong contender to replace Liam Rosenior

Rosenior only took the reins at Chelsea at the start of January, but the impact that he has made in West London has quickly seen his position come under major scrutiny.

Supporters have already become frustrated with the methods of the former Strasbourg boss, and the pressure has ramped up on him recently due to their exit from the Champions League.

The Chelsea board handed him a six-year contract when he was appointed, and they have remained fully behind him so far, but that resolve could be tested in the summer.

They will likely only need a top-five finish to reach next year’s Champions League, but even that looks doubtful amid their recent struggles.

The uncertainty surrounding Rosenior’s future has prompted the bookmakers to draw up a list of contenders to replace him, and one of the UK’s leading outlets has just cut Fabregas’ odds down to 6/1.

The former Chelsea midfielder appears to be a genuine contender to return and take the manager’s job at his former stomping ground, if the trigger is pulled on Rosenior.

Chelsea squad ‘unhappy’ under Rosenior

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that Rosenior’s future at Chelsea will be discussed at the end of the season, despite previous indications that his job is safe until at least 2027.

Wyness suggested that the Chelsea dressing room are “unhappy” with the way that things are going at the moment, and that was highlighted once again when Enzo Fernandez fuelled speculation of a move to Real Madrid last week.

Wyness believes that if Chelsea’s form collapses in the final few weeks of the season, then it could potentially seal Rosenior’s fate much sooner than expected.

The club hierarchy are sure to have a readymade list of appealing managerial targets, and they may have to delve into it sooner rather than later.
