Chris Sutton reveals exactly what will happen to Danny Rohl if Rangers lose to Celtic

Rangers take on Celtic for the second time in a week on Sunday afternoon in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

Danny Rohl’s side threw away a two-goal lead at Ibrox last weekend to draw 2-2 with their Glasgow rivals in the Scottish Premiership.

Youssef Chermiti’s first-half brace, which included a ridiculous overhead kick, was cancelled out by goals from Kieran Tierney and Reo Hatate.

Celtic then beat Aberdeen 2-1 on Tuesday evening, which has seen the Gers drop down to third in the Scottish Premiership.

However, they have another chance to get one over the Hoops this weekend, as Martin O’Neill’s side come back to Ibrox in the Scottish Cup.

Danny Rohl falling into same trap as other Rangers managers

Rohl was very punchy in his press conference ahead of Rangers‘ draw with Celtic, criticising the Hoops’ approach to their Europa League tie with Stuttgart.

O’Neill’s side were knocked out of the competition by the German outfit, losing 4-2 on aggregate.

The German also responded to Luke McCowan’s statement that Celtic are untouchable in the Scottish Premiership when they are at their best.

Former Hoops striker Chris Sutton believes that, if Rangers are beaten in the next Old Firm, some Gers fans will be thinking Rohl has to focus on his own job.

Speaking on The Warm Up, ahead of the derby, Sutton added that it is a more important game for Rohl than for O’Neill.

He said: “It’s a bigger game for Danny Rohl than it is for Martin O’Neill.

“For Danny Rohl, some Rangers fans may think that he just has to focus on what Rangers are doing, just because of the unnecessary things he has been getting involved in. There’s the stuff with Luke McCowan, the stuff with telling Celtic how they should’ve played in Stuttgart.

“If Rangers lose the game at Ibrox, I think they’ll be a few Rangers fans thinking, blimey, he’s getting sucked in as some Rangers managers have done in the past.”

Rangers’ season hangs in balance ahead of Celtic clash

Rangers have now only won one of their last four Scottish Premiership games, and are slowly slipping away in the title race.

They are six points adrift of league leaders Hearts, and now one point behind Celtic.

However, the Scottish Cup provides them with an opportunity to bounce back to form and get one over on their Glasgow rivals.

The result of the quarter final could have a huge impact on the rest of Rangers’ season, though.

A win could kickstart their title bid once again, but a defeat may be detrimental to the morale of the squad.

Either way, we are now in the period where Rangers simply have to win every single game, no matter what competition it is in.
