Connor Barron's Rangers contract latest: All Ibrox fans need to know about his situation after injury return

Connor Barron returned from a long injury layoff in Rangers‘ 1-0 win over St Mirren.

The Scottish midfielder has been a key player for Danny Rohl since the German took his place in the dugout at Ibrox in October.

The 23-year-old has finally recovered from the knee injury that he suffered in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen in January.

Ibrox News looks at Barron’s contract situation at Rangers after he came off the bench in the victory at the SMiSA Stadium.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.

What is Connor Barron’s contract situation?

Rangers signed Barron in June 2024, on a free transfer from Aberdeen, which caused significant controversy.

The clubs could not agree a compensation fee, so the matter went to a Scottish FA tribunal and the Gers were forced to pay a figure believed to be £639,920 plus add-ons.

Barron signed a four-year deal with the Light Blues, that will keep him in Govan until June 2028, at the very least.

What has Barron said about Rangers?

There has been no talk of a potential renewal yet, but there is plenty of time to go on his current deal.

Barron talked about his admiration for the club when he signed, so is it likely that he will want to extend his stay at Auchenhowie.

Speaking in June 2024, he said: “I am absolutely delighted.

“As soon as I started talking to the club I knew that this was the place for me to come. Everything seemed right and I think it is the best place for me to be at this moment of my career.

“It is a club where the demand is high to win football matches and trophies, and that is something that I really want to be a part of.

“It was a massive decision for me, but it was made easy by speaking to the staff and the manager and now I can’t wait to get started.”

What does Danny Rohl think about Barron?

Danny Rohl clearly rates the former Dons ace, as he was clear about how devastated he was about the impact of losing Barron when he got injured.

He said: “Connor is a big loss, I think he will be out around eight to 12 weeks.”

Given that Rohl likes him and thinks he is a key part of his team, surely a new contract is on the table for Barron before his current deal runs out.

Right now, though, the Gers do not have to worry about that, as he has two years left on his deal and does not look to be considering a departure.

It will eventually be a priority for the 49ers Enterprises group, but it is not an imminent issue that needs to be a concern for supporters.

Barron looks set to remain at Rangers for the foreseeable future, and it would surely take a huge offer to change that status, given how much importance he has in Rohl’s title-chasing side.
