David Ornstein shares why Crystal Palace deal fell through for Everton ace McNeil
Dwight McNeil saw a move from Everton to Crystal Palace fall through in a dramatic conclusion to the winter transfer window.
Palace submitted a deal sheet for to conclude a deal for McNeil, giving them until 9pm – rather than 7pm – to conclude a deal.
News emerged earlier on Monday of Palace lodging a £20million bid for the winger, which it was reported Everton accepted.
And it now seems as though it was Palace who reneged on that agreement.

Paul Joyce shares update on collapsed Dwight McNeil transfer
The timing of McNeil departing Everton would not have been good, especially given Jack Grealish has been ruled out for the season.
Tyrique George has arrived at Hill Dickinson Stadium, however, and £20million for McNeil can only be considered positive business for the Toffees.
A deal did not go through, though, and as reported by The Times’ Paul Joyce via X: “Palace pulled out of deal is Everton perspective.”
The Athletic’s David Ornstein also provided an update, adding that Palace pulled out due to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s exit falling through, they changed the terms from £20m purchase to a loan bid with an option to buy, only to then pull out.
What next for McNeil at Everton?
Had Palace’s offer been made a day or two earlier, there is every chance McNeil would be a Crystal Palace right now.
As it is, the 26-year-old will be back at Finch Farm on Tuesday. David Moyes will not mind that, given the aforementioned lack of options, but there is surely no place for McNeil at Everton beyond this season.
It is fair to say that £20m sum will not be as high come the summer, unless McNeil works his way into Moyes’ starting XI and really tears things up.
On the basis of what we have seen from him for too long, though, that is not realistically going to happen.
But what you can guarantee with McNeil is that he will give his absolute all when called upon, which is all fans can ask for right now.
