Evangelos Marinakis could already sack Vitor Pereira as Nottingham Forest embarrassed by Aston Villa

Evangelos Marinakis already has a decision to make on Vitor Pereira after Nottingham Forest were knocked out of the Europa League semi-final.

The Tricky Trees had one foot in the Europa League final after beating Aston Villa 1-0 in the first leg, only to be ripped apart by Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park on Thursday, 7 May.

Ollie Watkins cancelled out Chris Wood’s penalty before Emi Buendia netted a penalty, and John McGinn wrapped up the game in style with a three-minute brace during the final 15 minutes.

Forest’s managerial situation has been absolute chaos during the 2025-26 campaign, and knowing the Reds’ owner, a fourth change in the dugout could be made in just 12 months.

Evangelos Marinakis is no stranger to sacking Nottingham Forest managers

Supporters have already raised questions ahead of the summer transfer window, with Forest being linked with Marshall Munetsi due to his time with the current manager at Wolves.

The 57-year-old has done exactly what he set out to do when he was appointed in February, and that was to drag Forest away from the Premier League relegation battle.

His side are currently sitting six points above the dropzone, with just three matches remaining, but they have three very difficult clashes against Newcastle United, Man United and Bournemouth left.

Premier League safety is not yet confirmed, but even if he manages to achieve that at the City Ground, it is not a certainty that Marinakis has seen enough to be convinced by the manager.

Vitor Pereira might not be safe at the City Ground

The owner has made no qualms about sacking managers this season, having already gone through Nuno Espirito Santo, Sean Dyche and Ange Postecoglou, before landing on Pereira.

His contract is set to run until the end of the 2026-27 campaign, but he could be walking through the exit doors long before that, and supporters wouldn’t be at all surprised.

Against Villa, it was an absolute shambles. Forest conceded four unanswered goals, with an awful starting lineup at Villa Park. Pereira was without Morgan Gibbs-White, of course.

Murillo, Ibrahim Sangare and Dan Ndoye were all fit enough for the bench, but only the former made a cameo appearance. Still, Marinakis is unlikely to take well to the manner of the defeat in B6.
