Everton eye Rangers player as 'acceptable' fee update drops - report

Everton are set for a frantic final few days of the winter transfer window.

David Moyes is still waiting on his first signing of the winter window, as it’s looking increasingly more likely that Everton may not sign anyone before the 2 February deadline.

The Friedkin Group had been told to splash the cash this winter, with Everton still in touch with the race for European football for next season.

However, they have so far been frustrated in their transfer pursuits, as Everton also look set to miss out on Youssef En-Nesyri too.

Everton also look set to miss out on Hayden Hackney, as Middlesbrough have confirmed that the long-held Toffees target will be attending a fan roadshow event on 11 February, and thus are seemingly confident he’s going nowhere.

All in all, it’s been a highly frustrating winter window at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and it does feel that a big opportunity to really push for a European football finish has passed them by.

Therefore, with just days remaining before the winter sales stop, it may prove incredibly tough for Everton to sign any players that will be able to come in and make an immediate first-team impact this term.

So, if Moyes can’t get any of those players, then the next best thing is to turn focus to the future, to see if there’s any young talents out there that could still be snapped up before the deadline that can come good down the line.

Well, as it so happens, one such player may just be out there for the Toffees, and it’s someone that they’ve previously tried to recruit, but a deal doesn’t look likely to be done before the summer.

As per a recent report from the Rangers Review, Gers goalkeeper Rydnn McGuire is being monitored by a host of Premier League clubs, as he’s now got just 18 months left on his contract at Ibrox.

Everton tried to sign McGuire in a £1m+ plus deal in this season’s summer window, but that offer was rejected by the Glaswegian giants, who evidently rate the 17-year-old very highly.

It’s reported that Everton’s interest has never gone away, but they do face competition from the likes of Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth, whilst Arsenal were also tracking him in the summer.

The Rangers Review state that clubs have been asking what sort of fee would be deemed ‘acceptable’ by the Ibrox hierarchy, with teams keeping tabs on his progress ahead of the summer window.

Why McGuire may not wish to leave Rangers anytime soon

For McGuire, playing for Rangers is a huge thing given he’s a boyhood fan of the club.

As such, leaving Ibrox would naturally be an incredibly tough decision for him, making it that bit tougher for any team south of the border to secure his signature.

Not only that, but there’s a real chance that by the time he comes of age, the role of starting goalkeeper for Rangers could be firmly up for grabs.

Jack Butland is already 32, and is only contracted in Glasgow until the summer of 2027, and he cuts a divisive figure among Gers supporters, as he has been prone to mistakes despite being generally good for them.
