Everton: Friedkin and Marinakis to unite against PL over Chelsea outrage as initial 'talks' begin

Everton and Nottingham Forest have both been left unhappy with the Premier League’s latest £10.75million fine and transfer ban given to Chelsea over financial misconduct.

The reason being is that both Everton and Forest have previously been docked points by the Premier League for breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Dan Friedkin and Co. are understood to be exploring a possible legal challenge against the Premier League and are preparing to write to ask for a formal explanation of the handling of Chelsea’s misconduct.

According to The Guardian on Wednesday, Nottingham Forest have held “talks” with the Toffees this week about joining forces, which would see the Friedkin Group and Evangelos Marinakis work together against the Premier League.

No decision has yet been made about this, but through Everton and Forest working together, the pair of clubs could see potential gain.

How Everton and Nottingham Forest could receive compensation from Premier League

Both Everton and Forest are said to be seeking legal advice over the matter, as any claims against the Premier League would be based on the inconsistency of their own rulebook.

It’s likely that Forest will also write to request a formal explanation from the Premier League over Chelsea’s punishment, and it’s said Everton wouldn’t be the only club to support it.

The Toffees and the Reds were docked a combined 12 points which put their Premier League status at risk in recent years, simply for breaching PSR rules.

Chelsea, on the other hand, were caught paying players and agents up to almost £50m in secret hidden payments, as other clubs in the league also feel the Premier League’s punishment was “lenient”.

By working together, Forest and Everton make their cases instantly stronger. It won’t just be seen as a one-off, as two clubs have both feel they have been wrongfully affected here.

The clubs have a right to seek damages from the Premier League, if they wish, as working together could be the option they take.

It also seems like other clubs in the top-flight would be willing to back them, and it could be instrumental if the sides were to take this matter any further, which is what is being suggested.

Everton are subject to a compensation claim from Burnley based on arbitration, and could yet see further punishment come their way for their previous PSR breach.

What would be the likely outcome for both clubs?

Regardless of the outcome, Everton and Nottingham Forest will both have leverage in a legal challenge against the Premier League by working together.

There’s a good chance that the Premier League will explain Chelsea’s punishment to both, and there’s potential that laws could change for the future.

But the likely outcome is hard to say right now, though; they both have a strong case to make.
