Kieran Maguire reveals AFCON financial 'mess' risking Everton duo's personal loss
Everton duo Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye could see personal financial complications arise from AFCON’s overturning of the Senegal and Morocco final, according to Kieran Maguire.
The pair of Toffees fan favourites came back to Hill Dickinson Stadium in January as African champions, having beaten Morocco in the final of the competition over two months ago.
Ndiaye and Gueye played a huge part in helping Senegal reach the final, where they controversially beat Morocco on penalties after their side left the field of play in protest over a penalty that was awarded to Morocco in normal time.
Under Article 84 of AFCON’s rulebook, it states that if a team has abandoned the field of play without authorisation, then it can be seen as a match forfeit.
As a result, CAF’s board appeal did find Senegal to have forfeited the match, as Morocco are now declared the champions, with both Ndiaye and Gueye now at personal financial risk according to Maguire.

Kieran Maguire AFCON explanation shows how Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gueye may be affected
During Everton’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, Ndiaye and Gueye were seen celebrating against CAF, as the pair looked to prove a point through the camera after the AFCON mess.
The duo have been key players for David Moyes’ side this year, and the Toffees will be glad that this hasn’t affected their ability to perform in the Premier League.

While speaking on The Price of Football podcast, finance expert Maguire was talking about what the AFCON overturning could mean for players from Senegal.
Maguire said: “Players will have been paid bonuses from the Senegal FA for winning the competition, and it could be that they have contract clauses.
“Where do the players stand in this? Because they’ve potentially been denied bonuses, so there are issues on an individual level. It’s a mess.”

It’s a complicated one that could now see Ndiaye and Gueuye both lose personal bonuses, which could cause further unrest.
How have Gueye and Ndiaye responded to AFCON overruling?
The AFCON result was officially overturned on 17 March, and since then, the Toffees have only played one game.
But that was the 3-0 win over Chelsea before the international break, and if that performance was anything to go by, then Ndiaye and Gueye have only responded well to what they will see as a robbery.
The duo will already be getting paid handsomely by Everton; however, a financial loss will be a different type of loss than having the final overturned.
The pair are both currently away with their national team, so let’s hope they return to Finch Farm in good spirits once again.
