Everton Women star tops Leah Williamson and other WSL heavyweights amid international success
Ruby Mace is leading the Women’s Super League charts defensively as an impressive season continues for the Everton Women’s star.
Mace swapped Leicester City for Everton last summer, and so far, the 22-year-old has proven to be an excellent acquisition.
The one-time England international has been part of a side that has conceded 32 goals in 19 games, but without Mace, the defensive picture would look considerably worse.
The former Manchester City and Arsenal youngster, who signed on a three-year deal, has been ever-present for Everton, making 23 appearances in all competitions.
In addition to Mace starring for Everton, she has also just achieved some international success.

Ruby Mace leads WSL with old Leicester teammate
Mace, who can also play as a holding midfielder as well as a centre-back, has proven her worth at Everton so far this season.
In 19 WSL matches, she has made 18 starts, bagged two assists, created three big chances, and kept three clean sheets.
Ruby Mace’s Everton season Balls recovered per game 4.2 Clearances per game 6.3 Tackles per game 3.1
According to Sofascore, Mace has a passing accuracy of 88 per cent, which rises to 94 in her own half, and she averages 1.5 interceptions per match.
She will probably harbour a desire to earn an England recall ahead of the 2027 World Cup, after her sole Lionesses bow came in 2024.
And while she has been playing for England’s Under-23s, Mace is tied with old Leicester teammate Ashleigh Neville when it comes to defensive contributions per 90.
That is better than some of the league’s most prominent defenders, including Arsenal’s Leah Williamson and Lotte Wubben-Moy, Chelsea’s Millie Bright, and more.
And the good news doesn’t stop there for Mace.
Mace wins U23 Euros with England
On Friday, Mace was in the starting XI for England as they won the U23 European Championships after beating Sweden 3-0 in the final.
Lydia Bedford’s Young Lionesses lifted the trophy in Murcia thanks to goals from Izzy Goodwin, Hannah Silcock and Olivia McLaughlin.
Mace played the whole game at the heart of England’s defence, while Everton loanee Laila Harbert came on just before the hour mark.
After representing her country, Mace will return to Everton as they prepare to face Chelsea in the WSL on 26 April.
Scott Phelan will be trying to get the Everton job full-time, so he will need players like Mace to be on top form if they want to get a result against the Blues.
