Everything we know about Danilo's Rangers contract ahead of return from NEC Nijmegen
Rangers shipped Danilo off to NEC Nijmegen in January.
The 27-year-old joined the Ibrox club in the summer of 2023, but saw his early career in Govan ruined by a long-term injury.
That had a damning impact on the rest of his spell in G51 and hampered him from truly forging himself a guaranteed spot in the starting XI.
He continued to feature in the first half of this season, but with Danny Rohl putting his stamp on the side, it made sense for the Brazilian to leave.
Danilo ultimately joined NEC Nijmegen on loan as we now assess what we know about his contract ahead of his Light Blues return.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What is Danilo’s contract situation at Rangers?
It seemed likely that the number 99 would be on his way out of Govan as soon as the January transfer window opened.
That is exactly what happened after a mixed campaign in the Scottish Premiership as he completed a switch to the Netherlands.
Stat (Eredivisie 25/26) Danilo Appearances 8 Starts 1 Minutes played 200 Goals 1
Things haven’t exactly been rosy in the Eredivisie as the Brazilian has struggled once again for consistent minutes this campaign.
That won’t make for great reading at Ibrox, especially with his contract not set to expire until the summer of 2028 after penning a five-year deal in 2023.
He is reportedly paid £26,000 per week as part of that move, equating to a yearly salary in the region of £1.3million at Ibrox.
That is a sizable outlay and will raise concerns as Danilo continues to struggle with NEC Nijmegen, with the summer window edging ever closer.
Could Danilo return to NEC Nijmegen permanently?
It will be interesting to see whether the forward is to return to Govan or if a permanent exit is already on the cards.
Considering the fact that Danilo signed for Rangers for around £6m just three years ago, the Gers will be eager to get as much money as they can from his potential sale.
That could make sense for all parties, as he still has two years remaining on his current deal, which represents value in itself.

NEC Nijmegen may prove to be a potential destination for the Brazilian, even if he’s only scored one for the Dutch outfit this season.
If they could make a decent offer, it feels likely that the Light Blues would give them the green light.
