Ex-Everton CEO praises Liverpool's 'well-organised' protest & suggests what happens next
Liverpool and their fellow Premier League clubs will have to find ways of increasing revenue outside of ticket price rises.
That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after Liverpool fans protested against the club’s ticket price rise against Crystal Palace.
In the 13th minute of Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, supporters raised yellow cards in unison of their opposition against price rises in line with inflation over the next three seasons, whilst fans were also encouraged not to spend money inside the ground.
Whilst Manchester City have frozen prices for a third successive season, many Premier League clubs have followed Liverpool’s lead in increasing prices.
Liverpool’s price hike could earn the club an extra £1.3million a season, but the move does not seem urgent as they’re in a strong financial position under Fenway Sports Group.

‘Fans starting to rebel’ against price rises
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Liverpool’s “well-organised” protest could lead to a national campaign.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes club owners will find it harder to justify price rises to their fan base.
Total Turnover £703m Matchday Revenue £116m Wages-To-Turnover Ratio 61% Wage Bill £428m
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “We are starting to see the point where fans are starting to rebel.
“Because of the organisation of the fans at Liverpool, it won’t be long before we start seeing a national fan campaign, well-organised as well.
“The owners are going to start to see that there’s going to have to be a reasoning, that I’m afraid we’re going to have to find other revenue sources from the fans rather than through ticket prices, and I think that’s probably about right.”
Liverpool could accept offer on star player
Sources have told Football Insider that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s future at the club is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window.
Amid interest from Juventus, Liverpool could allow Alisson to depart Anfield if a sizeable offer is received for the 33-year-old.
The Brazilian has been at the club since 2018, but injuries are becoming increasingly more common for the goalkeeper, with Giorgi Mamardashvili having to regularly deputise in his place this season.
