Ex-PL CEO reveals what he is 'hearing' about Chelsea appointing Frank Lampard

Chelsea’s current problems on and off the pitch could put Frank Lampard off returning to the club this summer.

That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who believes Lampard should remain at Coventry.

The Blues are looking for their next manager after dismissing Liam Rosenior after only 107 days in charge, and Lampard remains a legend at the club from his playing career.

Lampard has had one permanent and one interim spell in charge of Chelsea previously, and the 47-year-old proved his managerial qualities this season by leading Coventry to the Championship title.

Whilst Andoni Iraola and Xabi Alonso are the favourites to land the Chelsea job, Lampard has been linked with a return to Stamford Bridge and could be tempted to help out his former club.

Frank Lampard to Chelsea is ‘lazy writing’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Lampard would be inheriting a “difficult situation” at Chelsea.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Lampard will stay loyal to Coventry, and has heard about what the club could be planning to do this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s lazy writing to me to start linking Frank with Chelsea.

“I’d much rather, if I was Frank, I’d rather stay with stability at Coventry and try and make my name for myself there than going into the mess that is Chelsea right now. It really is a pretty difficult situation to go back in there.

“So Frank’s well advised to stay there. There are some interesting things happening at Coventry, and good luck to them. Frank’s done very well, and they’re going to be very clever from all I’m hearing about the way they’re going to try to put that squad together with that blend of experience and young, talented youth.

“They’re going to give it a good go and Sunderland is a great pointer for what to try and do.”

Chelsea striker could quit amid Barcelona interest

Chelsea could face a blow in the summer transfer window with interest building from Barcelona in striker Joao Pedro.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Chelsea could allow Pedro to depart, although they would prefer not to sell the 24-year-old after only one season at the club.

Pedro’s attitude could be a concern in the dressing room, and the Blues want to change the culture of their squad next season under a new manager.
