Ex-PL scout: Newcastle ready to accept big-money offer for star in summer

Anthony Gordon is becoming increasingly likely to leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window amid growing interest in his signature.

The 25-year-old has endured a turbulent season so far, going long spells without finding the net while also enjoying periods of huge impact under Eddie Howe.

Newcastle’s own struggles this season have contributed to his lack of consistency, and there is now a feeling he will be keen to move on to pastures new.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Bayern Munich’s interest in Gordon comes as no surprise, but they will face competition from Liverpool.

The England international will have no shortage of suitors, and while it will take a significant fee, Newcastle could look to sell in what will be an important window.

How do Newcastle feel about selling Anthony Gordon?

Brown first told Football Insider in January that Newcastle are preparing to let Gordon leave in the near future and are prepared to entertain offers.

His lack of consistency has led to suggestions that they could upgrade on him with some clever recruitment, while they are reluctant to keep unhappy players.

There have been suggestions that the winger’s head has been turned by the level of interest in him, including long-term interest from boyhood club Liverpool.

“Talk about Anthony Gordon’s future isn’t going away,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s a player with a lot of talent and quality, but he’s had spells this season where he’s gone 15 games without a goal, then he comes back and has a good run, then he fades again.

“For a club like Newcastle, you’re relying on your best players to be fit and firing week in, week out, and if they’re not then you end up in the situation they are in.

“On that basis, if clubs come in with a big offer for him, I expect they’re ready to let him go.

“It doesn’t surprise me to hear there is interest in him from clubs like Bayern Munich and Liverpool as well, because he’s got the quality to be a top player.

“Liverpool are losing Mohamed Salah and they’ve always had an interest in Gordon, so they could make a move for him if he’s going to be available.

“Then, you have to question what he’s thinking, because it has always been hinted that he would like to move to Liverpool, so he could be keen to move on too.

“It might be time for a parting of the ways for both him and Newcastle if these big offers are going to come in, because it’s been a frustrating season for them.”

Could Liverpool return with a new move for Gordon?

Liverpool’s interest in Gordon has been long-standing, but it seemed that interest may have faded after what was a big summer for the Reds in 2025.

The record signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle was the biggest deal done, and seemingly had put an end to any suggestions that Gordon could follow.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 3 April that Liverpool remain interested in signing Gordon and could make a move when the summer window opens.

Mohamed Salah’s imminent departure has forced them to consider their wide options, and the England international is already well-known to the recruitment team.

Arne Slot’s side have been long-term admirers of the winger, and may finally be tempted to step up their interest should his availability become clear.
