Expert names two replacements for Tottenham star who could finally leave after altercations

Guglielmo Vicario has proven that he is not the answer to Tottenham’s goalkeeping problems.

Vicario has constantly been linked with an exit from Tottenham after a lacklustre campaign between the sticks.

He has clashed with his own supporters and even been mocked by the official Premier League X account, in a since-deleted post after complaints.

It could be his final season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a potential exit has been mooted for the 29-year-old.

Who could replace Vicario at Tottenham?

John Wenham believes that the Italian goalkeeper could be on his way out of Spurs in the near future, and he has picked two English stoppers who could replace him.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think Vicario, I just think for whatever reason, it’s not going to work out for him long-term at Tottenham.

“He’s had a couple of altercations with the fans, and he just doesn’t seem fully settled at the club.

“I would like to see, if he were to go, him to be replaced with an English goalkeeper, I’ve seen this week links with Dean Henderson from Palace, who I think is a very good keeper. I’d be happy with that.

“There’s also the James Trafford situation, which he’s not playing at Manchester City.

“I think either of those two, as a young, kind of home-grown English keeper, would be a good move for the club to replace Vicario.”

Where has it all gone wrong for Vicario?

Vicario seemed to be the answer to the Lilywhites’ prayers when he first came to England, with excellent shot-stopping skills and confidence.

However, that has fallen away in rapid fashion as he has continued to make horrendous mistakes this season.

He is targeted by the opposition on set-pieces, and has a toxic relationship with the supporters after his poor performances.

He was booed by supporters in the loss to Fulham in November after he rushed off the line, gave the ball away and allowed Harry Wilson to score an easy goal.

He made a series of silly errors in the latest 2-1 defeat to the Cottagers on 1 March, one of which has been widely mocked.

It would be best for all parties to move on.
