Ex‑PL club chief boosts Rangers hopes of permanent Mikey Moore signing with Tottenham claim

Mikey Moore could make a permanent switch to Rangers this summer due to the financial situation at Tottenham.

That is the view of Keith Wyness, with the former Aberdeen and Everton chief executive speaking to Football Insider on Moore’s future.

The 18-year-old joined Rangers on a season-long loan at the start of the season, and Danny Rohl is keen to extend his time at the club.

Spurs’ potential relegation to the Championship could mean Moore plays a bigger role at the club next season, but the drop in revenue would make player sales a necessity.

Rangers’ hopes of signing Moore hinge on Spurs’ plans for the teenager, and whether the north London club can remain in the Premier League.

Mikey Moore ‘likely to stay at Rangers’

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Moore’s valuation has risen during his time at Rangers.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that Rangers are “pushing hard” to agree a deal to bring Moore back to Ibrox.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s been a very successful loan period.

“I’ve seen his valuations go up since he’s been at Rangers, which is exactly what they wanted to do, give him game time and put him in the shop window. It’s worked very well. Even if Spurs were to go down, then he would probably still stay at Ibrox. Rangers would be very keen to keep him for another year. He seems to be very happy there.

“From Spurs’ point of view, it would be about giving him one more year of putting him in the window again, maximising his valuation, rather than necessarily putting him back into the Championship.

“Now, he will be a future player, and it’s going to be up to Spurs to balance those books as to whether they need to sell him or whether they’re prepared to let him have another development, maybe even half a season, then bring him up bring him back to finish the season of the Championship with hopefully a promotion push for Spurs.

“That’s how I could see things panning out, but it’s worked well, he’s settled in well, he’s playing well, and Rangers are pushing hard, so he’s part of a very interesting dynamic. He’s learning a lot in terms of experience.

“I’m sure Danny Rohl has been a very good manager for him. Everything seems good in that situation. That’s one of those areas where it can work out very well. They don’t always work like that, but in this case, everybody seems to be happy.”

Moore could be part of Rangers rebuild

Moore is sure to play an important part for Rangers in their final five games of the season, as Rohl’s side chase the Scottish Premiership title, and Champions League qualification.

Sources have told Football Insider that Champions League football would mark an overhaul of Rangers’ squad, with a new midfielder seen as a priority.

The Gers though want to strengthen in all areas of the pitch, and a right-back will need to be sourced after James Tavernier’s decision to leave the club.

Tavernier will depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, with Liverpool’s Luca Stephenson lined up as a replacement.
