Ferguson recognises Rohl to be 'surprised' with Rangers development, but it's part of package
Rangers manager Danny Rohl needs to come to terms with the fact that criticism is a part of the job at Ibrox.
That’s what Barry Ferguson believes, who has acknowledged that the German manager must be surprised by his detractors after making significant progress since taking over the Gers.
Before the former Sheffield Wednesday boss’ arrival, the Light Blues were 13 points behind league leaders Hearts and managed to get themselves back into title contention.
Back-to-back losses to Motherwell and Hearts have all but ended hopes of William Hill Premiership glory for the Glaswegian outfit, prompting strong reactions in G51 regarding the head coach.
Rohl can’t take things personally at Ibrox and should learn lessons from his failures this season and try to do better in the 2026-27 campaign.

Danny Rohl his own worst enemy at Rangers
Writing in the Daily Record on 8 May, Ferguson said, “He’ll know what people are saying and writing about him and he’ll probably be a little surprised by a lot of it, given how much good work he had done just to drag this team of his into a title fight, having picked them up off the floor at the wrong end of the table.
“He’s been given a lot of praise and respect for managing to turn the season around. But now that it all seems destined to end in disappointment again for my old club, he’ll have to realise that the criticism he’s getting right now is just part of the package. What he shouldn’t do is take any of it personally.”
Rohl hasn’t helped himself with some of his decision-making at the Gers, like starting Andreas Skov Olsen in the 2-1 loss at Tynecastle Park.

The German manager took his team to a mid-season training camp in Spain ahead of the first post-split fixture, but it didn’t have the desired effect on the Light Blues.
Going into the final five league matches of the season, the Glaswegian outfit had the title race in their hands and momentum on their side, but Rohl has killed it with his inability to deal with adversity in the must-win fixtures.
Derek McInnes and Jens Berthel Askou were able to tactically get the better of the former Owls boss, who had no answers for them.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have Danny Rohl dilemma
Rohl’s ability to lead Rangers is being questioned by many fans and pundits alike after back-to-back league losses for the first time since March 2018.

While there’s no doubt the German manager has brought stability back to the Gers, he may not be the right person to lead them over the final hurdle.
Fans in G51 are beginning to wonder whether Rohl has taken the Light Blues as far as he could after getting outclassed by McInnes and Berthel Askou.
Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will surely have faith in the 37-year-old head coach, but fan dissatisfaction could lead the Ibrox hierarchy to make tough decisions.
