Friedkin Group personally say no to Everton player sale - report

Everton supporters are growing concerned about a lack of incoming transfer business so far this month.

David Moyes has yet to see any new players arrive since the window opened, with just five days left to conclude any business.

Everton have said goodbye to Harry Tyrer, having joined Cardiff City last week, but that is it in terms of permanent deals either incoming or outgoing.

While there is frustration at a lack of new signings, however, it must also be remembered that no first-team Everton players have been sold.

And that may well remain the case following a new update provided on midfielder Tim Iroegbunam from Italy.

Friedkins say no to Tim Iroegbunam offer

Lazio made a bid for Iroegbunam last week, coming on the back of Everton rejecting an offer for forward Beto.

That Lazio bid for Iroegbunam was also rejected by Everton, with the Friedkins not willing to cash in on an important first-team player.

And it has now emerged via Wednesday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport that it was the Friedkins who personally said no to Lazio’s bid.

The reason why is quite clear on the face of it. The Friedkins also own Roma, who are Lazio’s fiercest rivals – indeed, they even share a stadium.

It was previously reported that Lazio tabled about £10million for Iroegbunam, so it is not surprising the move was rejected outright.

Had double that sum been tabled, for example, it would have been interesting to see what direction the Friedkins went in.

Will Friedkins sanction any Everton exits before window closes?

It seems likely that Iroegbunam will be staying at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the future of Beto looks less clear at this stage.

As pointed out by Alan Myers this week, Beto’s cameo appearance against Leeds United may well have been a sign that he will soon depart.

But if that is the case, a new forward quite simply needs to be brought in. Thierno Barry is improving all the time, but it would be ridiculous to rely on him for the next four months.

The Friedkins deserve huge praise for the work they have done at Everton over the past year or so, including on the transfer front.

The Americans cannot afford to get things wrong over the next week, though, which means digging deep in order to find Moyes the attacker he desperately craves.
