'He's a true legend' - Rangers advisor reveals big-name player has been discussed at Ibrox

Rangers have been holding conversations regarding Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool departure, according to Gers advisor Stig Inge Bjornebye.

The forward is calling time on his stint at the English giant this summer, after nine incredible years on Merseyside.

Joining the club from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian has cemented his name as both a Liverpool and Premier League legend, with 257 goals and 122 assists for the Reds.

During that period, he has lifted the league title twice and won every trophy available to him across both English and continental football.

And ahead of his summer departure, conversations regarding the Egyptian been held at Ibrox.

Mohamed Salah departure discussed by Rangers chiefs

Former Norway international Bjornebye has now revealed that Salah’s Liverpool departure is a topic discussed in Glasgow – although he fell short of saying the Gers would live to try to sign him.

Naturally, brining in Salah would be a pipe dream, but the ambition under the 49ers ownership group is something to note, with the fact that these things are even discussed behind the scenes.

The Gers consultant appeared on a show put on by Egyptian outlet Modern MTI, where he was quizzed about Salah’s next move.

“I don’t know what Mo’s plans are,” said Bjornebye, who went on to add: “We discussed it at work today as well, as I’m an advisor to Rangers. We discussed where he’ll go and so on.

“He’s a true legend at Liverpool and has achieved a remarkable legacy for a great club. He has delivered exceptional results for them over many seasons.”

As mentioned, it is obviously not the case that the 33-year-old will be wearing Blue next term, though the fact that these things are discussed behind closed doors can only be a positive for the Gers.

Rangers have to estabblish themselves as an ambitious club

While trophies have been rather hard to come by over the course of the last decade, Rangers still sit as one of the finest clubs across the continent in terms of size and stature.

Now with Rangers looking to win the title for the first time since 2021, the Govan outfit have to be thinking ahead to the summer, as they look to cement themselves as consistent challengers for silverware once again.

With five games to go, Danny Rohl’s side are well placed to mount a title challenge, but building on from here will be the key aspect moving forward.

The 49ers group at the helm do carry serious ambition, as has to be the case at Ibrox, and they have to begin establishing themselves as the place to be in Scotland when it comes to recruiting players from across the continent – even if they are not quite Salah.
