Ibrox View: 49ers have hung Rohl out to dry after latest Rangers striker developments

Ryan Naderi was viewed as the final piece to complete a brilliant transfer window for Rangers.

The German striker had been identified by Danny Rohl as the man to end the Ibrox side’s striking woes this season.

The Light Blues have already strengthened with the likes of Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens and Andreas Skov Olsen coming through the doors in the winter window.

Now, the Gers transfer window looks set to end with a whimper, despite a deal for Naderi being reached.

Why has Naderi deal let Rohl down?

Rohl needs a striker to arrive now, not in the summer, when the Scottish Premiership title race will have been decided.

However, the Gers have agreed a deal with Hansa Rostock that will see the 22-year-old arrive in Govan before the start of next season.

They have reached a compromise that will see Naderi stay with his current club for the remainder of the campaign.

Why the 49ers are to blame for Naderi compromise at Rangers

Naderi is clearly an important player for the third-tier outfit, given that he has scored eight goals in 18 league appearances so far.

Therefore, the fact that the 49ers Enterprises group and the recruitment team messed about for so long, and didn’t just go with an offer that was too good to turn down straight away, needs to be criticised.

Surely, if they offered enough, early on in the window, when Daniel Brinkmann’s side had time to find a replacement, they could have had him in this window.

Now, Rohl could be left without his biggest need, having to rely on the likes of Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski for the goals to lead his side to the title, he has basically been hung out to dry as the owners have been held to ransom by the third-tier side.

That may not be good enough to overhaul Celtic and Hearts, as the duo did not affect the game against Hibernian on 1 February and have scored a total of four and eight goals, respectively, in all competitions since joining the club.

The failure to secure Naderi in the winter market ultimately falls on the ownership, and it could haunt them if the Auchenhowie outfit misses out on the league championship at the end of the campaign.
