Ibrox View: 49ers may have to re-think £8.6m summer transfer after what was seen in Rangers v Celtic
Andreas Skov Olsen looked completely off the boil in Rangers‘ Scottish Cup penalty shootout loss to Celtic on Sunday.
The winger has been subject to early questions over his displays at Ibrox, but recent performances are starting to paint a grim picture.
When the Bears secured the loan signing of the forward from Wolfsburg in January, plenty of Gers fans were excited to see their attack revamped with creativity.
However, serious questions may now be asked of the 26-year-old, who again failed to impress against Celtic.
Rangers could sign Skov Olsen permanently this summer, but the 49ers may have to carefully assess their impending decision now.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Is Andreas Skov Olsen worth the £8.6m?
Rangers can buy Skov Olsen for £8.6million this summer, which initially seemed like a steal given his exploits for previous clubs.
The Dane struggled for minutes in Germany, but his displays for Club Brugge is what sparked the Bears’ interest in him all them years ago.
- Skov Olsen scored 49 goals in 124 games during his time with Club Brugge
- He had only managed 361 minutes in the league with Wolfsburg this season before coming to Ibrox
Skov Olsen was a complete passenger against Martin O’Neill’s side, rarely getting on the ball, and when he did, nothing came of it.
Mikey Moore is in fine form and will be targeted by the opposition’s defences, which means Skov Olsen needs to step up to be the man.

However, £8.6m is a steep figure, and if things keep going the way they are, it’s unlikely we will see him in a Rangers shirt for the 2026-27 season.
Danny Rohl may need to revert to one-striker formation; here’s why
There has been early success in the partnership between Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi, but as first feared by some, they are too like-for-like.
Both are phsycial strikers, who, granted offer different skills, are not effective enough when played together.
Rangers were at their free-flowing best in a 4-2-3-1 setup, and one of Naderi or Chermiti may need to be sacrificed for Rohl to get the Bears back into their old ways.
Tension will continue to rise at Ibrox, and if Rohl doesn’t switch up his tactics soon, he risks an unwelcome phone call with Andrew Cavenagh.
