Victor Osimhen confident Galatasaray can hurt Liverpool at Anfield

Osimhen believes Galatasaray’s performance against Liverpool showed the Turkish champions have the quality to compete with the Premier League giants when the teams meet again in England.

Speaking after the match, Osimhen praised his teammates for their effort against a strong Liverpool side and said the squad will review their performance to improve ahead of the decisive second leg.

“Every time we play here it’s so emotional for us. Aside from that, the victory is important.

We know next week is going to be really hard, but I believe in this team and the kind of performance we put in against a very good side like Liverpool. I’m optimistic that we can do some damage there at Anfield.

But like I said earlier, it’s not going to be easy. We will go back, look at our mistakes and try to correct them. I’m proud of the boys tonight.”

The tribute visibly moved the 27-year-old striker, who admitted the moment meant a great deal to him and his family.

Osimhen said the gesture reinforced the strong bond he has developed with the club and its passionate supporters since arriving in Istanbul.

“It was incredible seeing what the fans did. When I was coming out from the dugout and saw the banner, it was really emotional for me. I was very young when I lost my mum.

To see this type of gesture, like they said, ‘we are family’, this club and these fans mean so much to me. I’m happy that I came here and that in my career I’m able to experience this type of compassionate and amazing people.

It’s not just about football, it’s about life in general. I’m so grateful to them for the love they’ve shown me and my family.

That’s why every time I step on the pitch and put on this jersey, I want to give everything for them. I want to bleed for them.

I think me and Galatasaray were meant to cross paths. It is destiny, and I’m happy to be here.”

Galatasaray will now take their narrow advantage to Anfield for the second leg, with Osimhen and his teammates hoping to finish the job and secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
