Ibrox View: McManus looks like a fool after latest Rangers & Celtic title claim

Rangers and Celtic’s winter transfer windows are perceived very differently.

The Ibrox side are believed to have a brilliant experience in the market, bringing in what they need to secure the title for Danny Rohl.

Rangers added Tochi Chukwuani, Tuur Rommens, Andreas Skov Olsen and Ryan Naderi to enhance their credentials as contenders to try and overhaul Hearts at the top.

Meanwhile, the chaos behind the scenes continued at Celtic, with many observers bemoaning their transfer approach.

One of those is former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, who did not hold back when analysing the Hoops’ business.

What did Tam McManus say about Celtic’s title chances

Rangers’ draw with Hibernian last time out means that the Parkhead side are above the Light Blues in the Scottish Premiership on goal difference.

However, McManus believes that the board have let Martin O’Neill down and they deserve not to win the title after their business.

Taking to X on 2 February, he said: “The board have hung Martin O’Neill out to dry and to be honest deserve everything they get if Celtic don’t win the league.

“St Johnstone have spent more money than Celtic in this January window, never mind Rangers and Hearts.”

Why McManus is wildly wrong about Celtic and Rangers title hopes

Writing the Hoops off is absolutely pointless at this point, they brought as many players in as the Light Blues.

While they did not spend much money, they did agree significant buy options for the likes of Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu.

That approach makes perfect sense given that O’Neill is only a temporary solution, and the Gers will not be looking at their arch-rivals, expecting them not to compete at the business end of the campaign.

Rohl and Co will not underestimate their fellow Glasweigians as McManus has, just because their business looks unimpressive on the surface level.

Celtic’s addition this winter.

The 49ers Enterprises and their data team will understand what has made Celtic sign those players, especially since Cvancara emerged as one of their own targets earlier in the window, before he signed for O’Neill’s side.

The ex-Scotland Under-21 international looks like a fool once again, his latest title claim is simply wrong, and it is far too early to make an assessment on which transfers will succeed.

Whoever wins the championship in May will deserve it, and it could very well be the Celts, if their signings hit the ground running and ensure that the Bears cannot keep up.
