Ibrox View: Ridiculous Tavernier prospect can't define Rangers legacy
James Tavernier shouldn’t be judged on whether Rangers win the William Hill Premiership title this season.
It would be ridiculous to boil down what the right-back has contributed and achieved at the Gers to the final five matches of the 2025-26 campaign.
The Light Blues have momentum on their side as they look to pip Hearts and Celtic to the league title, but there’s every possibility that things may not go as planned for Danny Rohl in the coming weeks.
If that’s the case, then the Ibrox faithful have an even bigger responsibility to ensure that their disappointment of potentially missing out on number 56 in Govan doesn’t stop them from giving the captain the send-off he deserves.
Tavernier will depart Ibrox as a legend and supporters have to ensure that he feels the appreciation for leading the Glaswegian outfit for several years during a volatile period.

🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Rangers have James Tavernier-sized void to fill in the summer
Even at 34, Tavernier is still arguably one of the most influential players at the Gers, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists in all competitions this season.
While the right-back’s physical attributes might have diminished a bit, there’s no denying the quality he possesses in the final third, creating 17 big chances in the William Hill Premiership in the current campaign.

Rohl seems to prefer Dujon Sterling in the starting lineup due to his arguably better defensive solidity, but the former Chelsea ace is injury-prone, while Max Aarons has failed to live up to expectations.
There’s no doubt that the Glaswegian outfit will have to look for a replacement for the veteran right-back in the summer, a task that will be challenging for the recruitment department in Govan.
Overlooked aspect of James Tavernier legacy at Ibrox
Tavernier was signed by Rangers in 2015 for around £200,000 and helped them secure promotion from the Scottish Championship, scoring 10 goals and providing 18 league assists in his debut season.
Since then, the Englishman has been ever-present for the Gers and has written himself in the history books as British football’s highest-scoring defender.

Some people seem to dismiss the fact that the Light Blues spent a relatively low amount on a player who has given them some exceptionally memorable moments, with the 2020-21 league title win under Steven Gerrard the highlight so far.
Tavernier can bring more joy to the Ibrox fanbase by lifting silverware at the end of the season, but if he doesn’t, that wouldn’t affect what the defender leaves behind in Scottish football.
