Ibrox View: Rohl at risk of Rangers sack if ‘amazing’ star isn’t given chance

Danny Rohl has to look to give Findlay Curtis a run in the first team after his performance from the bench against Ferencvaros.

Rangers were poor against Ferencvaros as they were defeated 2-1 and all but ended their chances of reaching the knockout stages.

Plenty of players were rightly slammed for their performance, with Emmanuel Fernandez once again terrible for Rangers.

However, one of the bright sparks was Curtis, who quickly made himself a nuisance from the bench.

Findlay Curtis simply must be given a run in the Rangers starting XI

Earlier in the season, Curtis was described as “amazing” by Russell Martin after he scored past Panathinaikos.

However, Curtis has often been sidelined since Rohl came through the door at Ibrox.

This is despite many of Rangers’ wingers being consistently poor and failing to make any positive impact on the game.

On Thursday, this continued to be the case until Findlay was brought on. Here, the youngster provided an actual threat and was unlucky not to score.

According to Sofascore on 12 December, the winger was one of the Gers’ best players despite his short time on the pitch.

Therefore, Curtis must simply be given a run in the starting XI, which might not only help Rangers pick up results but also continue his development.

If Rohl does not do this, he is risking the sack, especially with how many of the Gers’ attackers are currently performing.

Hopefully, against Hibernian, Curtis will be rewarded with a start for his cameo.

Danny Rohl: Rangers mistakes destroyed chance of victory vs Ferencvaros

Looking back on the match on Thursday, Rohl was far from pleased that Rangers had bottled their lead against Ferencvaros.

The visitors had gone 1-0 up and led the Hungarian side until the last seconds of the first half.

From here, Ferencvaros would eventually take the lead after a flurry of chances to essentially end the Gers’ hopes of qualification into the knockouts.

Speaking to BBC Sport on 11 December, Rohl was far from happy with the result.

He said: “Honestly, I’m very angry about our conceded goals. This is the disappointment for me. We played a solid first half, go in the lead – exactly what you want. Go in with a lead and they have to open more and more. Then the first conceded goal.

“For the second game in the row in this competition, I see a team who is competitive and a team in a process forward, but I see a team, especially in this competition, destroy the hard work in two, three situations.

“To take something you have to be sharp for 90 minutes, 95 minutes in every duel. The chance was on today to win this game.

“I am angry about two or three mistakes, this is hard to take. From tomorrow we have to focus on big games in the league.

“What happens in the next two games is not a topic for me today. We will see what happens in this competition.”
