View: Everton may have newfound Garner optimism amid contract silence

James Garner’s future at Everton has been a talking point since the start of the window.

Everton have had a rather slow transfer window to say the least, with the Toffees yet to make any new additions to their squad, despite the clear lack of depth.

With that said, there has been a lot of talk about players who could move on from the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Garner is among them.

Man United have been linked with a move to sign Garner, who is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Everton will not want to lose their star midfielder, and the latest updates – or lack of – showcase exactly why that may not happen.

No update is a good update for Everton

Garner has been in contract talks with Everton for several weeks now, though, for whatever reason, it seems as though the two parties are yet to come to an agreement.

Of course, given his contract situation, Garner can agree a pre-contract with a club from abroad, and there will be clubs interested, given the form he has demonstrated this season.

In an ideal world, his extension would have been announced by now, but it may not be a bad thing that it hasn’t been.

There is every chance that the Toffees are prioritising other transfer business if they are confident that Garner will put pen to paper.

If a January exit were to happen, there is a high likelihood that it would have been done by now, or at least heavily mooted.

There is cause for optimism, and hopefully that comes to fruition in the next few weeks.

David Moyes has already talked about James Garner’s future

Some panic is inevitable given his situation, but there seems to be very little reason to fear for an exit for Garner.

He is happy on Merseyside, and he is only getting better with each passing week.

However, his future will make the headlines until it is confirmed, but David Moyes has a lot of faith that it will be resolved soon.

After Everton’s 2-0 win over Forest, he said: “I am quite comfortable. I feel quite comfortable in the situation.

He has hugely developed as an individual. When I came, I saw a boy, but now I see someone becoming a leader.

He is growing up and acting like a real midfielder. He is happy to come up against the best players. He looked as good as anybody tonight.”
