Ibrox View: Rohl repeats Rangers mistake vs Hearts which may come back to haunt him

Danny Rohl has once again insisted Rangers will see the Hearts game on Monday as a final.

The German manager has been repeating the phrase for several weeks now as the Gers have seen the title race slip out of their hands.

Motherwell was a “final” for Rohl, but the Light Blues’ hopes of winning the William Hill Premiership were dented after the 3-2 loss at Ibrox.

The Jam Tarts will now host the Glaswegian outfit at Tynecastle Park on 4 May in what could end up deciding the fate of the Scottish top flight.

Rohl has talked the talk at Ibrox, but when it comes to his decision-making in recent games, it doesn’t seem like the Govan side are going out to play a do-or-die fixture.

Danny Rohl must live up to promise at Rangers

Speaking to the media before facing Hearts, Rohl said, “We need now, in the next four games, good performances that are over 100 per cent, we can’t go below that. In October, we were a long way away, but now we have four finals to go.”

If the Gers have indeed been playing finals, then it has been disappointing to see Rohl’s conservative team selection in the last few matches.

Mikey Moore started on the bench against Motherwell because he wasn’t fully it, but if the German manager truly believed it was a “final”, then he should have taken a risk with the Tottenham Hotspur loanee.

Rohl’s record at the Gers this season

The Light Blues went away to Spain for a summer training camp during their week off, and instead of making improvements, the break didn’t seem to have done much for them.

Rohl has seen the Govan side’s defensive displays deteriorate of late, something that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Danny Rohl shoots himself in foot at Ibrox

Rohl has put extreme pressure on Rangers to win their recent matches and it came back to haunt him against Jens Berthel Askou’s team and may do the same at Tynecastle Park.

If the Gers drop points in their “finals” to Hearts and Celtic, that won’t leave a good impression on the fanbase regarding the German manager’s ability to win silverware further down the line.

The former Sheffield Wednesday boss has brought the Govan side a long way, but he may not be the right person to get them over the last hurdle.

Rohl’s comments have put the spotlight on him at Ibrox and the 37-year-old head coach must deliver silverware in G51, if not now, then definitely next season.
