Ilkay Gundogan makes Man City prediction and sends title race warning to Arsenal
Ilkay Gundogan has warned Arsenal history is in danger of repeating itself and Manchester City will overhaul the Gunners to claim the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta’s side have failed to win any of their last three top flight games, a run which culminated in last weekend’s shock home defeat against Manchester United.
Arsenal’s wobble has allowed City, and Aston Villa, to close the gap at the top to four points prompting fears Arteta’s men are on the verge of chokingagain.
Gundogan was a key component of the treble-winning City side in 2023 that chased down an Arsenal team that, at one stage, held a commanding lead.
The former Germany international faced many of his old teammates last night as Pep Guardiola’s men booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League following a 2-0 win over Galatasaray.
Asked after the match if City would knock Arsenal off their perch again, Gundogan said: ‘I think so yes.
‘I think they have the momentum right now and the past has always shown that once they get that momentum it’s very, very difficult to get something out of the games against them.

‘They can go for a long winning streak right now. It looks like they have to do that because both teams play at a very high level but that’s why the Premier League is one of the most exciting leagues.
‘You have all these teams and it feels like at the moment everyone can get something against everyone. It’s a special league, amazing to watch.
‘I’m following it, it’s exciting but I wish obviously that they are able to do it.’
There was one downside for City amid last night’s victory with the loss of winger Jeremy Doku to a calf injury in the first half representing a significant blow.
The Belgian sparkled in the first half hour and created both goals for Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.
Guardiola was unclear on how long he could be sidelined but all but ruled him out of Sunday’s trip to Tottenham.
‘Unfortunately, he won’t be ready for a few more days,’ said Guardiola.
Haaland’s goal was his first from open play in 10 games but Guardiola never doubted his star striker.
He said: ‘I love a lot that he missed one clear chance but, after that, had the composure to make this incredible touch. When you’re anxious, you don’t do that.’
