'Incredible' - Journo can't believe Rangers transfer decision in 24hrs span
Rangers have rejected offers for Youssef Chermiti and Djeidi Gassama in the winter transfer window.
Monaco made an offer for Gassama, but the Gers have no intention of selling him before the 2 February deadline.
Fenerbahce have also been linked with Chermiti, but the Light Blues are adamant that the Portugal Under-21 international isn’t for sale.
With the Glaswegian outfit focused on winning the William Hill Premiership, it seems wise to hold on to key players, but the money on the table was a lot for them to turn down.
Youssef Chermit and Djeidi Gassama offers rejected by Rangers
With Monaco including an £10million obligation to buy in the loan deal for Gassama and Fenerbahce also tabling £13m for Chermiti, the Gers have decided to reject some significant bids.
The Scotsman journalist Barry Anderson seems baffled by the Light Blues’ decision to turn down the offers at Ibrox, and it looks like he can’t believe it.
With the Glaswegian outfit’s player trading model being criticised over the last few years, they had a rare opportunity to make a profit.
Writing on X on 27 January, Anderson said, “Rangers rejecting £23m in one day for Chermiti and Gassama is incredible stuff.”
Danny Rohl hasn’t been able to rely on Chermiti this season, and most fans wouldn’t mind seeing him leave the Govan side just months after his move from Everton.
As for Gassama, his form has seen a dip in recent months after a strong start to the season, but the 22-year-old French winger’s value will surely increase if the German manager can consistently bring the best out of him.
How much profit would Ibrox side make on £23m?
Chermiti arguably hasn’t lived up to his £8m price tag at Ibrox, and it’s safe to say the investment in him hasn’t paid off.
However, Rangers had an opportunity to potentially make a £5m profit on the 21-year-old, but have surprisingly turned it down.

On the other hand, the Light Blues spent just £2.2m on Gassama, and had they accepted Monaco’s offer, the Govan side would’ve made almost four times their initial investment.
It remains to be seen whether the Glaswegian outfit will regret their decision or ask for even more money a season or two later.
