'Insanity' - Pundit boggled by Rangers star's possible transfer fee

That’s what former Hearts ace Ryan Stevenson believes, but he acknowledges that it’s the sort of prices the current market dictates.

The Scot feels it’s insane to think that the Nigeria international is now worth an eight-figure sum after coming into his own in the second half of the campaign.

While the figure boggles Stevenson, Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson later added that £10m would only get interested parties to the table and the actual final sum could possibly be significantly higher for the Glaswegian outfit to sanction the defender’s sale.

Fernandez is clearly a prized asset at Ibrox and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Govan side make a hefty profit on him sooner rather than later.

Speaking on Hotline Live on 23 April, Stevenson said, “For as good as he is, I think £10m is insanity. I know it’s the market and it’s the value of just the way things are, I just think £10m for a player that’s 24, played half a season, boggles my head.”

Fernandez has become a valuable member of Danny Rohl’s plans in recent months, forming an impressive partnership with Nasser Djiga.

The Nigerian star has made 22 appearances in the Willi Hill Premiership this season, scoring five goals and missing six big chances, as per Sofascore, highlighting his threat in the opposition box.

Apart from the centre-back’s defensive capabilities, his abilities on the ball have been eye-catching, completing 88 per cent of his passes and 0.5 dribbles per game.

There’s still plenty of room for development for Fernandez and the 24-year-old’s magnificent rise in recent months justifies the Glaswegian outfit’s demands for his sale.

Feyenoord are interested in Fernandez, with former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat helping Robin van Persie narrow down his transfer targets ahead of the summer.

It has been claimed that it would take a significant offer for the Gers to sanction the centre-back’s sale, one reason being Peterborough United’s sell-on percentage.

The EFL League One outfit included provisions in the deal when selling the Nigeria international, which could see them profit in the future.

There’s a lot of noise around Fernandez’s future in Govan, but the Ibrox faithful will certainly hope they can see him in G51 for another season before he moves on.
