Kaiserslautern star Afeez Aremu to become fifth Nigerian to join Aberdeen
Aberdeen are considering a late move for FC Kaiserslautern midfielder Afeez Aremu as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Scottish Premiership club are at the front of the queue for the 26-year-old, with interest also coming from Israel, Poland and Turkey, according to Press and journal.
German reports suggest Kaiserslautern are willing to sell, as Aremu has just six months left on his contract and the club are keen to recover part of the fee they paid to sign him in 2023.

Aremu has found regular football hard to come by this season, making eight appearances in all competitions, with only five of those coming as a starter. That lack of game time has made a move increasingly likely, and Aberdeen see him as a possible answer to their search for a defensive midfielder, which has been one of their main priorities in the January window.
If a deal is completed, Aremu would become the fifth Nigerian to play for Aberdeen, following in the footsteps of Sone Aluko, Chidiebere Nwakali, Peter Ambrose and Danny Uchechi. It would also offer the midfielder a fresh chance to relaunch his European career in a new league.

Afeez Aremu: From Ibadan to Europe
Born in Ibadan, Aremu began his professional career at a very young age in Nigeria, making his league debut for Remo Stars at just 14. He went on to play for several clubs in the Nigeria Football Premier League, including Sharks, Sunshine Stars, Rivers United and Akwa United, building a reputation as a strong and energetic midfielder.

In 2020, he moved to Europe, joining German side St Pauli from Norwegian club IK Start. Three years later, he switched to Kaiserslautern in a deal reported to be worth a mid-six-figure sum.
Now, with his contract running down and opportunities limited, a move to Aberdeen could suit all parties; giving the Dons a much-needed midfield option and Aremu the chance to get his career back on track with regular football.
