Lewis Family made offer too good to turn down as possible Cristian Romero exit route opens up

Cristian Romero has saved Tottenham’s blushes on multiple occasions this season.

Romero most recently helped salvage a 2-2 draw versus Burnley, as he netted a late equaliser against the Clarets.

Against Frankfurt, Romero was hailed for his performance in the Champions League, as he picked up an assist.

However, over recent weeks, the Spurs captain’s future has been thrown into question, with suggestions Romero has threatened to leave if Thomas Frank is sacked.

Frank has not had the best of times in N17, but Romero has been one of Frank’s favourites during his tenure so far.

However, there has now been a reported offer made, as the 27-year-old could end up exiting the club this window.

Tottenham could find themselves embroiled in a transfer battle to keep Romero before the end of the window.

The Argentinian is one of the North London club’s most important players, but in football, every player has their price. And that could be tested after the latest reports out of Spain.

According to Fichajes, Real Madrid have offered around £85million to Tottenham for Romero.

Los Blancos are currently going through a crisis at the back, with Florentino Perez desperate to solve their concerns.

Before his sacking, Xabi Alonso had also wanted Romero to move to the Bernabeu. The Madrid club have had multiple injury issues with Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and David Alaba this season.

It is believed that Romero is ‘considered a vital necessity to inject aggression and character’ into Alvaro Arbeloa’s squad.

Tottenham would surely have to accept Real Madrid’s offer for Romero

Romero leaving Spurs would not be ideal, but with the figures being touted, Tottenham surely have to accept or at least consider it.

While the centre-back is one of the most senior players at the club, the Lilywhites could find it hard to receive that high of an offer in the future.

It leaves the Lewis family with quite the decision to make over the next few days if the reports are to be believed.

On one hand, that level of money could be used to reinvest into the squad, but with the winter window nearing a close, it could be hard to find a suitable replacement.

Additionally, losing the club captain mid-season would be a big blow to the hopes of qualifying for European football next season.

However, Romero’s leadership has previously been put into question as well.

After Romero recently called out Tottenham figures, they may now be looking for the best chance to get rid of him.

And if an offer of £85m is to truly arrive, it would not be a surprise to see them accept it and for the defender to exit the club this window.
