Liverpool youth expert reveals what Arne Slot really thinks about Luca Stephenson after Rangers links
Liverpool midfielder Luca Stephenson has been linked with a move to Rangers.
Stephenson has been lighting up the Scottish Premiership on loan at Dundee United, with five goals and four assists in 32 matches in all competitions.
He has been with the Anfield side since 2018, when he signed from Sunderland, but is yet to make his senior debut.
His versatility could be a huge asset if Rangers decide to make their move, as he can play in midfield, as a centre-back or right-back.

The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
What did Liverpool expert say about Arne Slot and Luca Stephenson?
Stephenson was tipped for a move to Rangers or Celtic by Charlie Mulgrew on The Breakdown podcast.
Reds youth expert Lewis Bower revealed that Arne Slot rates the 22-year-old very highly and has shared what can be expected from the Tannadice star if he did make the move.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “Luca Stephenson is one of my favourite all-time academy players.
| Stat | Value (2025–26 Premiership) |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 28 |
| Starts | 28 |
| Goals | 5 |
| Assists | 4 |
| Goal Contributions | 8 |
| Minutes Played | 2,472 |
| Key Passes (per game) | 1 |
| Pass Completion | 66% |
| Sofascore Rating | 6.85 |
“Often overlooked as placed alongside more mercurial players so to speak, but the only reason they could perform was because of Stephenson’s intensity and desire.
“A real floor raiser of any side up to a certain level who will leave everything on the pitch.
“Arne Slot was a fan due to his more meticulous methods that require players to follow specific instructions, which is something Stephenson easily followed, evidenced by his use at centre-back, in the middle of the park and anywhere on the right.
“The fundamentals remain the same, but that is not to suggest he is a carthorse of a player, he is capable of moments of quality on the ball, while he looks to have added some good ghosting movement that sees him in the box more regularly with eight goal contributions this season.”
Could Rangers sign Stephenson from Liverpool?
It would be a very savvy move for the Gers, as he already has significant experience in the Scottish Premiership.
His ability to play in multiple positions would be a real difference maker for Danny Rohl, but the question is whether the Merseysiders would let him leave.
The fact that Bower claims that Slot rates him highly and the new contract that he signed last summer, may hamper their chances of securing his signature.
However, if Stephenson does not see a pathway to first-team stardom with the Reds, he may push for an exit.
