Lucas Paqueta has behaved 'very badly' & 'wants to go' - expert

West Ham should not stand in the way of Lucas Paqueta leaving the club at the end of the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states why it is “best for all parties” that Paqueta departs.

West Ham and Flamengo are close to agreeing a deal for Paqueta in the region of £40million, as the 28-year-old looks set to return to the Brazilian club for a second spell.

Paqueta’s future at West Ham has been uncertain this season, with the midfielder’s contract expiring in 18 months time.

Lucas Paqueta has ‘not behaved’ at West Ham

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes a deal for Paqueta to leave West Ham will be completed.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the Brazilian’s relationship with the club has “broken down.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, look, he’s acted, I think, very poorly in some situations.

“I defended him around the charges, and as you know, we’ve discussed how the FA, I think, have acted very badly in the way that was handled. But still, I think, Paqueta himself has not behaved in the best situation recently. I think the emotional relationship is broken down.

I think it’s best to move on. He wants to go back to Brazil. I think that’s got to be the case. And I think it’s best for all parties to get the deal done now. I’m hearing that the numbers have been agreed, and I think he will be gone in January and so West Ham have got some extra money there to try and strengthen.

“No doubt he’s a talented player, but he is becoming a bit of a liability and a bit of a risk and I think it’s best for all parties that this one this one gets done, and it will get done.”

West Ham need to make Callum Wilson decision

The long-term future of striker Callum Wilson at West Ham is also uncertain, with the 33-year-old having been linked with a move to Saudi.

Wilson could still leave West Ham in January following talks to terminate his contract earlier in the month.

The former Newcastle forward though is expected to remain at the London Stadium until the summer before leaving the club.
