‘Martin O’Neill to consider Celtic resignation’ after latest Parkhead embarrassment

Celtic and Martin O’Neill are in dire need of a striker this January transfer window.

The Hoops have been simply dreadful up top this season, and this was on display yet again in their recent win over Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.

Players such as Daizen Maeda have been slammed by the Celtic Park faithful, for their lack of goals up top.

As a result, Celtic were eyeing a deal for Joel Piroe, who has found himself out of favour at Elland Road. However, any hopes of a deal have now been dashed.

Joel Piroe to Celtic a ‘non-starter’

According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph on 19 January via X, there is no chance that Celtic will be getting Piroe on loan.

Given the ties the 49ers have with both the Peacocks and Rangers, the Leeds hierarchy was surprised by the move.

Nevertheless, the West Yorkshire side are not prepared to sanction the loan in a deal that could strengthen Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title rivals.

This will come as little surprise to the Celtic Park faithful, as most fans will have known that the loan deal was never going to happen.

However, with the transfer window now edging ever-closer to its end, the Hoops appear no closer to signing a new striker, and have still only brought in one new face this month.

Therefore, if this issue isn’t sorted, O’Neill will surely consider resigning at the end of the transfer window.

Without additions, the Hoops will be destined for a trophyless season for the first time since 2010.

O’Neill will not want this on his record and will surely look to jump ship before it becomes a reality, with the board appearing to be clueless when it comes to transfers.

Who else are Celtic currently pursuing?

One other striker Celtic currently have their eye on is Mohamed Bamba.

The 24-year-old striker currently plays for Lorient in Ligue 1 but has fallen out of form this season, with just one goal in 16 matches.

Nevertheless, Celtic have submitted a loan-to-buy bid for Bamba in a late attempt to sign a striker.

Lorient are currently considering the offer, but it remains to be seen if it will be accepted given their strong position.

On top of this, given his form, there is every chance that Bamba just become yet another flop at Celtic Park.
