Michael Owen reveals how Chelsea squad will react to Enzo Fernandez outbursts

The Chelsea dressing room will have no issues with Enzo Fernandez’s spate of interviews questioning the club’s hierarchy and his own future at the club, according to Michael Owen.

The Blues have endured a hugely damaging few weeks, crashing out of the Champions League after an 8-2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain having also lost their last two Premier League games – embarrassed away to Everton last Saturday.

During that disastrous run, Liam Rosenior’s methods have been repeatedly questioned with Fernandez admitting PSG were ‘tactically better’ than his side after their 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last week.

In subsequent interviews, the World Cup-winning midfielder has also slammed the board’s decision to part ways with Rosenior’s predecessor Enzo Maresca in January while also refusing to rule out a move away from west London this summer.

Amid the turmoil, former Premier League star Owen believes Fernandez’s teammates will be happy for him to air his frustrations – just as long as it does not result in any of them being thrown under the bus.

‘I think it depends what’s said,’ Owen told Metro via casino.org.

‘If people come out and talk quite generically, then it’s fine.

‘If it’s a case of pinpointing certain individuals, and I think people realise that doing the media is part of the job, and you can’t go on and make a fool of yourself and start talking rubbish if things aren’t going well.

‘You’ve got to sort of say it without fully saying it, and there’s a fine balance to try and find in those post-match interviews.

‘I think that the squad will be fine in that respect as long as none of them feel as if they’re individually getting thrown under the bus.’

Chelsea have lost ground in the race for Champions League qualification, sat in sixth place, seven points behind Manchester United in third with Everton and Brentford now breathing down their necks.

After significant spending in west London, missing out on Europe’s premier league club competition again could have major ramifications with Owen believing it could prompt more players to consider their futures.

‘These are all great players who would walk into most teams in the world,’ Owen said.

‘If you’ve got great players, then you know you need to be getting great results, otherwise great players get frustrated and look elsewhere and think ‘Well, I could get into that team and that team, etc.’

‘Who knows what will happen in the summer. A lot will depend on what happens over the last handful of games in the league. If Chelsea get into the Champions League, then I’m sure everybody will be appeased.

‘The way things are going, they might not. That’s then going to cause, with all the money they’ve spent, with all the players that they’ve got, with the attitude of some of the players they have who want to be in the big tournaments, then that could turn into a little bit of a conundrum.’
