Morgan Gibbs-White has two games book his World Cup spot with FA announcement due

Morgan Gibbs-White has Nottingham Forest’s clashes against Newcastle United and Manchester United to leave himself with a chance of going to the World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s tournament will be announced on the 22nd May, with several players fighting an uphill battle for consideration.

The Nottingham Forest captain is among them, but he has surely given himself a brilliant chance on the back of the last few months.

Gibbs-White was missing as the Tricky Trees crashed out of the Europa League to Aston Villa on Thursday, but he has so often been the key man of late.

Nottingham Forest’s form should see them clinch Premier League safety in the coming days, and their captain can take much of the credit for that.

Morgan Gibbs-White faces huge two-game challenge

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider in April that Nottingham Forest will not be willing to sell Gibbs-White this summer, despite mounting interest.

The Tricky Trees eventually fought off Tottenham’s move for the midfielder last summer, and but will face attention from the likes of Manchester City this summer.

Especially if Gibbs-White goes to the World Cup and enjoys a strong tournament, which could even convince giants from other European leagues to get involved.

The 26-year-old still faces a battle to make the squad, however, with his last cap coming in October against Wales.

Morgan Rogers, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham are likely the players standing in the Nottingham Forest captain’s way, but there is still a chance.

Gibbs-White has scored eight goals and provided two assists across all competitions since the start of March, and he has games against Newcastle and Man United to send one last message to Tuchel.

Should the 22nd May arrive with the Nottingham Forest captain continuing his brilliant form, the German will have a difficult job passing him up.

Gibbs-White should feature over Phil Foden and Cole Palmer

There are attacking midfielders who will feature in Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s tournament, and rightly so.

Rogers has enjoyed a fine season for Villa, and Eze is now playing a key part as Arsenal look to end their wait for major silverware.

There is a case for Bellingham, too. The 22-year-old has not had a great season, but his consistency when playing for England, combined with his ability to appear deeper, will be an asset Tuchel wants in his squad.

But should Gibbs-White be passed up for Palmer or Foden, he has a right to be frustrated. It has been an injury-stricken season for the former, who has scored just five goals from open play in 30 appearances across all competitions.

The latter has not scored since December, and rarely features for more than half an hour in Pep Guardiola’s team.

Gibbs-White has a strong chance, but he must rely on Tuchel to recognise his terrific performances of late.
