Newcastle told to finalise 'double-your-money' sponsor deals, PiF key to getting it done - expert

Newcastle United’s owners should be utilising their network of business to bring more commercial revenue into the club.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, after season ticket prices for Newcastle fans increased by 5%.

Newcastle generated £117million of commercial income according to Deloitte’s 2026 Money League, but the club have ambitions to challenge at the top of the Premier League table.

Ticket price increases will boost Newcastle’s revenue, with the club having been restricted in the transfer market in recent years due to profit and sustainability rules.

Newcastle need to ‘maximise all revenues’ to push forward

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes commercial revenue needs to double if Newcastle are to take the next step forward on the pitch.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks fans want to see signs that the ownership are committed to bringing money into the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yes, it really is, but I think the fans, and I have some sympathy here again. Yes, they need to maximise all the revenues as we’ve discussed about Newcastle before, but also I think I want to see more from PIF in terms of them bringing sponsorship deals in.

“The commercial revenue under the last commercial director went really well, and they made a big increase, but they’ve got to go double that again to try and get into the area they want to be.

“Now, we’ve heard from the CEO saying that he’s going to do great things with the club, but in order to do those great things, you’ve got to have that money in the bank. And that should be coming. And I don’t know why it hasn’t come from, you know, closely aligned sponsorships that PIF have stakes in.

“They’ve got stakes in some big companies. And I don’t know why there hasn’t been a bigger fit with Newcastle in terms of some of those investments. And I think the fans would welcome those sorts of things coming in.

“And then if they’re being asked to play their part, then it makes more sense to them that they can do that, but they also want to see a sign from the top that there’s money coming in there.”

Newcastle battling for Borussia Dortmund star

Sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle are in a transfer race to sign Julian Ryerson from Borussia Dortmund.

The Toon could lose both Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier in the summer, leaving Eddie Howe short of options at right-back.

Manchester United are also in pursuit of the 28-year-old, who has contributed 11 assists from right-back in the Bundesliga this season.
