Newcastle United have fresh hope of Josh Acheampong transfer as Chelsea gem eyes exit
Newcastle United must take a chance and accelerate a move for Chelsea’s academy graduate Josh Acheampong ahead of the summer.
Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento have both been linked with moves away from St James’ Park, so signing new full-backs will be a necessity for Eddie Howe and his team behind the scenes.
Add to that Kieran Trippier’s impending departure, and the former Bournemouth boss could be left high and dry ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, but only if his transfer team aren’t planning ahead.
Newcastle’s transfer chiefs should already be all over securing Acheampong’s signature, given his lack of minutes at Stamford Bridge, and a new update has just offered fresh hope of reaching an agreement.

Josh Acheampong could be eyeing a move to St James’ Park
Rumours have been circulating over the full-back’s future for quite a while now, and that is not helped by the fact that he last put pen to paper on a new deal back in December 2024.
The Magpies are already believed to be in the race for his signature ahead of the summer, but a fresh report from Si Phillips would suggest that confidence over a deal should be sky-high.
According to the Chelsea journalist (21 April), the 19-year-old has a real interest in joining one of Bayern Munich, Newcastle, Liverpool and Man City, who have all made enquiries already.
Josh Acheampong’s 2025-26 Premier League season Stats [FotMob] Minutes played (Starts) 583 (7) Goals | Assists 1 | 0 Passing accuracy 92.6% Chances created 2 Successful dribbles 76.9% Tackles per 90 1.54 Interceptions per 90 1.54 Recoveries 3.55
Given that his lack of minutes in West London this season is his main reason for wanting a move away, a switch to St James’ Park would make the most sense, especially if multiple stars are soon to leave.
Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall’s situations at Newcastle United
Both of Newcastle’s most talented full-backs are heavily linked with exits this summer, and Football Insider understands that Arsenal are set to battle Man City for his signature.
On the other hand, Newcastle would need a “huge fee” for Hall to depart at the end of the season, as Mick Brown told Football Insider, especially given his exploits in England and Europe.
While Acheampong is clearly desperate to move away from Stamford Bridge, it is likely to come at a huge cost, so the Magpies might even require the money from a sale of one of their current players.
The summer window is still a few weeks away, but it would not be harmful to put a plan in place, especially when multiple European giants are also eyeing the talented defender.
